PARKER, Arizona — Greg Pursley and the Gene Price Motorsports team had a simple plan for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series race at Iowa Speedway this past weekend; race among the leaders and be in position to win. The plan was playing out perfectly for the former NASCAR National champion but a cut tire ended his day.

"The next event for Gene Price Motorsports is the NAPA "125" at Douglas County Speedway in Roseburg, OR Saturday June 5. Pursley finished 8th in the event last season."

Pursley qualified 11th in the 44-car starting grid. Pursley and the team are a former Coors Light Pole Award winner at Iowa so they were confident in their set-up and only logged a few laps in practice leading up to qualifying.

Pursley let the race unfold over the first third of the event not racing any of the other competitors real hard and saving his tires for later in the run. By the midway point of the race he had moved up to 4th in the running order insight of the of the leaders.

By lap 125, Pursley had moved up to second and was closing in on the leader, posting lap times that were two tenths quicker. When it looked like the team strategy was playing out to perfection his right front tires let go just as he was entering turn one. The result was a destroyed race car, a bruised and battered body, and a 39th place finish.

"We think we had the car to beat," stated Gene Price (car owner). "Goodyear thinks it was a slow leak that caused it. What we do know is we were fast. We had a car that could win. And we leave with a pile of parts. The great news is that Greg is OK albeit sore and we have a really good car for the next event at Roseburg."

Pursley's finish among the driver's in the West dropped him to third in the point standings 21 points out of second place and 78 points out of the lead. The next event for Gene Price Motorsports is the NAPA "125" at Douglas County Speedway in Roseburg, OR Saturday June 5. Pursley finished 8th in the event last season.

Greg Pursley is in his third full season of competition in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series and has 32 career starts, one win (Thunder Hill 2009), with ten top five and 17 top ten performances along with two Coors Light Pole Awards. Pursley is the 2004 NASCAR Whelen All American Series National Champion where he competed at Toyota Speedway and was a multi-time winner on the now defunct NASCAR Southwest Tour where he competed for many years.
