MONROE, Washington — On Whelen Night at the Races, Tom Moriarity won both of the twin 30-lap mains for the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Super Late Models. Lane Sundholm kept his win streak alive by virtue of another win of the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Street Stock main. The NASCAR Super Figure Eight division winner Ricky Dietz moved up in the points. The Foster Press Mini-Stock main winner is Kris Harriss while Sean Peters won the Stinger 8 feature.
Moriarity won both feature events and padded his slim lead for his ninth overall championship at Evergreen Speedway. Taking the lead on lap 17 of race one Moriarity was able to hold off Jeff Knight for the win. In Race two it was an accident in front of Moriarity that opened the door to the lead and he never looked back. Now with five wins this season Moriarity seems to have a hold on the championship albeit with a lot of the season remaining. Knight finished second in race one with Daniel Moore third. In race two Moore was second ahead of Andy Sole.
Four Street Stock wins in row is what may be heading the division’s defending champion Sundholm toward another. Taking the lead mid way through the 25-lap main Sundholm proved that once out front he has no match. Frank Cowgill finished second and Darrell Lutovsky third keeping in the point’s chase.
Super Figure Eight winner Dietz followed the 60-minutes of FEAR special event win with a point’s race victory. Dietz almost lost this win as he got tangled with a slower car and a flat tire ensued but on the other car. John Carlson was second and point leader Jake Repin third.
Sean Peters, son of Steve Peters the division’s point leader, won his first feature of the season by staying out of trouble and navigating through traffic with perfection. Veteran Ben Chandler finished second and settling for third was Rob Dykstra.
Harriss the defender of the Foster Press Mini-Stock division championship won his second feature of the 2010 season by virtue of two in a row. Jon Roberts recovered from an early race black flag to get the second spot while Ryan Rasmussen survived for a third place finish.
Next up at Evergreen Speedway is US Army Extreme Night on Saturday June 12th. The night features the two figure eight divisions, Stinger and Supers.
