ANTELOPE, California — It was a frustrating weekend for Paulie Harraka, driver of the No. 12 NAPA Gold Filters Toyota Camry. Harraka and the team from Bill McAnally Racing went to Iowa Speedway focused on adding a second win to their season in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West but came away in 41st after being caught up in a crash on lap 22.
The NAPA Gold Filters Toyota Camry ran mid pack in the practice sessions as the team worked on their race setup. Harraka qualified the car on the tenth row for the Goodyear Dealers of Iowa “200”. The first caution came out at lap 14. Harraka radioed in that the Toyota Camry was loose and the track had no grip. When the green flag dropped at lap 22, the No. 89 of Brad Bennett spun in turn 2. Five cars got caught up in the incident including Harraka. He took it to the garage and was able to reenter the race at lap 90. Harraka would once again take the NAPA Gold Filters Toyota Camry to the garage at lap 160.
"I love the racetrack in Iowa,” said Harraka, “and I'm glad we got to go there, but to have it end that way really hurts. Our NAPA Gold Filters Toyota ran right with all of the fast cars in practice when we did long runs so I know we would have been a contender for the win had we gotten the opportunity to run to the end. Getting caught up in somebody else's mistake is really frustrating. We were just in the wrong place at the wrong time."
The Goodyear Dealers of Iowa “200” can be seen on Thursday May 27th on SPEED Channel 3 pm PST.
