SNOHOMISH, Washington — Four-time late model touring champion Gary Lewis prepares to start his summer racing with a bang in the NOS Energy Drink Road Course Challenge set for June 26 at Pacific Raceways in Kent, Wash.
Having picked up wins in the past on the famed Western Washington road course, Lewis sees his 2010 late model debut on the twists and turns of the Kent facility as a good ice breaker for a summer filled with big race plans.
“The team and I are really looking forward to getting the orange No. 73 the SEFNCO Communications Chevrolet back on track. My guys have been going crazy waiting to do some racing so this should be a good one to start our summer stretch,” Lewis said “I have logged many laps this year already but just not in my own race car. Racing the road course is something that I love to do but is no easy task at all.
“Racing at Pacific Raceways for many years no will definitely help for sure this weekend to get our year started.”
Coming out of the weekend with a good finish heading towards a possible fourth Montana 200 championship is the game plan for the weekend, Lewis added.
“Racing is about to get very busy for us so a good finish here at Pacific Raceways will be nice for sure. The new car we have back at the shop is far from being finished so we need to make sure that we come out of this race in one piece. To be able to win this (road course) race three years in a row will be no easy task at al as we will have some of the very best drivers in the Northwest attending.”
With the new late model on hold Lewis and his Sign Factory USA pit crew have been busy preparing their race car that holds over $100,000 in prize money to its credit since it debuted in 2007.
“We have been working on the car off and on for many weeks,” he confirmed.
“The team has replaced many of the body panels on the Mike Leary’s Shock Shop Impala and we’re trying to get our hot rod cleaned up as nice as possible for our summer run. The plan is to finish this year off with our current race car, put it up for sale and then get started on the new car to debut in 2011.”
That summer stretch includes the Montana 200 on July 17, a return to the Idaho 200 on August 1 and stops along the way at Lewis’ hometrack of Evergreen Speedway.
