MADERA, California — Jim Pettit II won the ‘Laps4LittleOnes.com’ SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series event at Madera Speedway Saturday night, lifting the 2008 SRL champion from third to first in the SRL points standings.

For the first time in several events, the Prunedale, CA. driver qualified in the top five. “Yeah, we qualified second, and then they had the highest invert since the season started and had to start seventh, but sometimes that’s the way our luck goes. But I knew we had a good race car, so instead of having to use the car so hard as in the past, I took my time in working my way to the front.”
As for taking the lead in the point standings, Pettit said, “Naturally, I’m very happy with where we’re at, so we’ll continue doing what we capable of doing, and the points will take care of themselves.”
In the past four SRL races, Pettit has the win, two seconds and a third. The win also ties him for the most wins in the ten year history of the SRL at nine. The co-holder of the record, is the late Jeff Anthony, who was the 2005 SRL champion.
