We had Seventeen late models make the trip to Ukiah Speedway for the “Donahoo Excavating, Inc 75 Lap feature event”, it always a very impressive sight seeing all the Airport Auto Brokers Late Models lined up in pit row, and the crews in their AABLM hats & shirts. AABLM, Northern California’s premier touring late model series, made it’s second visit of four to the beautiful Ukiah Valley; home to some of our best late model drivers. The event started with Mike Lovell breaking the track record for lap time, and Mike Doss winning his trophy dash as well as the feature event. Joining the AABLM regulars, was newcomer Luke Nelson, driving the 55x, Trevor Cristiani, a Ukiah Speedway regular, and returning from a season long break, Sean Caturegli in his black #74.
The fast time plaque sponsored by Speedy Signs, went to Mike Lovell who qualified first quick with a 12.382. Next was Mike Doss, who brought a 12.573. Corey James with a 12.603, Kevin Ostern with 12.626, Eric Graham rounded out the top five with 12.650.
Kevin Estep of Clear Lake won the B dash in his Red # 21. Following Estep were #39 Jim Stillman, #74 Sean Caturegli, #98 Joe Aiken, #28 Myles Anderson and #55x Luke Nelson. Doss of Upper lake won the A dash in his Black and Blue #35. Following were #34 James, #15 Lovell, #90 Trevor Cristiani, #36 Ostern and #57 Graham
Clay Caturegli had the pole and Jeremy Donahoo was on his outside, Caturegli got the jump on the start and led the next 10 laps. The first caution was on lap 2 for S Caturegli and Joe Aiken was in turn 2; the next caution on lap 9 was for Donahoo and Ken Gifford in turn 1. Gifford headed to the pit after claiming the wall on the front straight away. On the restart, we saw the leader C Caturegli hit a slick spot on the track, causing him to spin and bring out another caution. After the track was cleaned up, we saw over 50 laps of green flag racing. Doss took the Lead on lap 15 and never looked back, winning his second feature of 2010 and extending his point lead. Ostern finished 2nd followed by Lovell, Cristiani, and C Caturegli coming back from an early spin recovery and rounding out the top 5.
See You at the Track
