LAKE BALBOA, California — Joey Licata, Jr. gave Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle its first ever Modified win in Saturday night’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Series-sanctioned action at Stockton 99 Speedway in Stockton, Calif.

The 18 year-old is the 2009 ASA TRUCK SERIES champion and leads the points in the 2010 ASA TRUCK SERIES. He also drives in NASCAR Auto Club Late Models for Tim Huddleson’s High Point Racing.

Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle driver development team is based on Sacramento, Calif. and its Modified team includes multi-car efforts at both Stockton 99 Speedway and All American Speedway.

Licata drove the #7 Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle / Star Racing Supply Modified to the pole around the quarter-mile asphalt oval with a time of 14.562 seconds.

After finishing third in his heat race, it was time for the trophy dash. Licata started on the pole, led all four laps, and stretched his lead to 1.2 seconds at the stripe.

The 30 lap feature was more of the same for Licata. He paced the field easily, leading all 30 laps of the contest and accumulating another large lead.

The feature win was the first for the quickly growing Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle Modified team. Licata now has six top-two finishes nearing the halfway point of his 2010 season.

“Joey took to the Modifieds like a fish to water,” driver coach Ron Sutton said. “We are very excited to have Joey in our Modified a few more times later this year and also excited to see him continue his strong runs in the trucks and late models!”

Licata will return to the seat of the RSWC Modified on August 28 at All American Speedway in Roseville. His next race will be this Saturday in the NASCAR Auto Club Late Models at Toyota Speedway in Irwindale, Calif.
