The DAA Northwest Spec Motor Late Model Series presented by Sherwin Williams will visit Sunset Speedway this 4th of July weekend for a Saturday, Sunday show. Saturday will feature qualifying and heat races, and on Sunday main events will be ran. This will be the ninth scheduled race in the 22 race series, four drivers have picked up main event wins so far this year, Greg Walters and Jason Wines have won two each, while singles have been won by Russ Sell and the latest winner Jerry Schram. Drivers competing in the series will compete for over $ 150,000 in prize and points fund money. The series will pay $5,000.00 to the 2010 Champion.
Current point’s leader and hometown favorite Greg Walters from Banks will be looking to extend his points lead at his home track this weekend. Walters leads last year’s Champion Jason Wines from Lebanon by a slim 8 points 311 to 303, Wines moved past Russ Sell after last weekend’s events at Willamette Speedway where he picked up a win and a third place finish. Sell dropped one position in the point standings with 295 points, after a 10th and 13th place finishes last weekend, son Brady Sell from Salem moved to within one point of his dad at 294 points. Last week’s winner Jerry Schram from Vancouver moved back into the top five with 288 points.
Other drivers expected to challenge for the win this weekend at Sunset Speedway include Steve Moore from Scio, Oregon, Vancouver’s Jimmy Schram, Canby’s Billy Workman Jr and Vancouver’s Brandon Biffle, along with Brandon’s dad Jeff Biffle, Lebanon’s Brett James and Salem’s Terry Ferrando, the Trout brothers, from Banks, Bob and Doug along with Beaverton’s Brittany Ray. Thirty two drivers have competed in the series in the first nine events.
The DAA Northwest Spec Motor Late Model Series presented by Sherwin Williams is a 22 race series that will hold events at six venues in Oregon and Washington States. The tracks include Coos Bay Speedway in Coos Bay, Oregon , Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Washington , Madras Speedway in Madras, Oregon , Southern Oregon Speedway in Medford Oregon, Sunset Speedway Park in Banks, Oregon and Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Oregon
