MONROE, Washington — ‘Armed Forces Night at the Races’ worked in the favor of three of the divisions point leaders. Day one of the 4th of July Weekend doubleheader at Evergreen Speedway is history. Jeff Knight won his second main in as many races in the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Super Late Model division. Division point leader Lane Sundholm added another win to his total in the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Street Stocks. Also adding to his point leading total Scott LaCross won his third in a row in the Foster Press Mini-Stock division. The Stinger 8 point leader Steve Peters also made it to victory stage.
The Super Late Model 75-lap main on the big track looked to be another solid win for division point leader Tom Moriarity. With just 14-laps to go his car stopped running and came to a stop on the track. Knight in the right place at the right time took the lead and carried it to the finish. Daniel Moore finished second ahead of Tom Hughs.
Sundholm took the lead on lap 1 of the Street Stock 25-lap feature on the big track. Sundholm as he has proven so far this season, once in the lead, he is too tough to catch. Joe Kneeland finished a strong second after spending considerable time dispatching Darrell Lutovsky. Lutovsky finished third.
Stinger 8 season championship point leader Steve Peters made it look easy winning the 25-lap main. Sean Peters (son of Steve) finished second just ahead of Mike Middleton.
The top three in points quickly got to the front of the 25-lap Foster Press mini-Stock feature on the 3/8-mile. LaCross who was running third got by Kris Harris and Jon Roberts to get to the front position. Roberts finished second and Harris third. The top three in this division are separated by less than 10-points.
