KLEYN WINS TWICE AT EPHRATA RACEWAY PARK

EPHRATA, Washington — On Eve of Destruction Night in front of a full crowd the big winner at Ephrata Raceway Park was Mitch Kleyn of Quincy with Main Event victories in both the Super Stock and Pepsi Cola Street Stock class. Dallas White in the Ephrata Pioneer Muffler II Pure Stocks, Colton Fisher in the Kim Janke State Farm Agent Youth Hornets and Chris McCart with the Mid Season Championship win in the BIG CARS rounded out the Main Event winners.

The biggest crowd of the year was treated to a giant Fireworks show and saw three amazing stunts from the Mr. Dizzy Stunt Team. First Mr. Dizzy drove his stunt car off the ramps and into a 3 car domino pile. The domino pile then squashed a 4th car with the three domino cars and his own vehicle bringing the crowd to its feet in a shower of explosions. Then Mr. Dizzy and Son loaded themselves into a car and blew it up with both emerging from the inferno on fire. The heat and force from the blast was felt in the grandstands. For their third and final stunt, The Crusher drove his car into a pyramid of six cars, through the hole in the middle landing on a 7th vehicle and bouncing to a stop with cars exploding behind while crashing to the ground. The three stunts all garnered standing ovations and loud whoops and hollers from the enthusiastic gathering.

On the racetrack action was hot and explosive as well. In the Super Stock class Brad Morrison set fast time with a 15.668 second time trial lap and won the Heat Race. Robert Kirk won the Trophy Dash. Kleyn wasted no time in the Main Event getting out to an early lead and holding the top spot for all 15 laps for the win.

In the Pepsi Cola Street Stock division Morrison set fast time with a 15.812 second lap around the high banked quarter mile asphalt. Terry Osborn and Skyler Leseman won the Trophy Dashes. Leseman and Kyle Childress were the Heat Race winners. After Osborn led the first lap of the Main Event, Childress and JR Stratfull got together coming out of turn 4 bringing out the yellow flag. On the restart Kleyn took over the lead and led the rest of the way for the Main Event win.

Coming into the Midseason Championship Race for the Jerry’s Auto Supply BIG CARS Chris McCart was interested in two things. Keeping his point lead and winning the huge Mid Season Championship Main Event trophy. Mission accomplished. McCart won the Main Event and set fast time at 17.101. Winning the Trophy Dashes were Fred Berger in his first night out and John Blackburn in the Pepto Bismol Pink Special Station Wagon. Troy Lannoye won the Heat Race. The Main Event was a donnybrook with cars smashing into each other all over the place. Only 4 cars finished the race. On the 3rd lap a rogue Motorhome pulling a speedboat on a trailer entered the track apparently lost on his way to the big city. The Motorhome soon wound up separated from the boat and trailer thanks to a vicious hit from the Ranchero of Lee Love that sent the boat spinning off turn one and the trailer into the infield. The Motorhome then exited the track via the same place it came in and left the track on the highway. Thank you Lost Motorhome for the extra excitement. Sorry about your boat.

Someone finally put an end to the winning streak of Derrick Kapalo in the Ephrata Pioneer Muffler II Pure Stocks. Dallas White held off Kapalo for 15 laps for the win. Tom Veenstra debuted with a 17.568 second qualifying lap in time trials. The Trophy Dashes were won by Glenn Hector and Kapalo. Mike Mulalley and Kapalo were the Heat Race winners.

Starting off the evening for the Kim Janke State Farm Agent Youth Hornets was Colton Fisher setting fast time at 17.692. Fisher used a great start during the Main Event to lead all but the first lap for the win. Dylan Adamson and Kelly Olsick gave chase to no avail. Adamson and Fisher won the Trophy Dashes and Adamson won the Heat Race.

The next race at Ephrata Raceway Park is Mid Season Championships for Super Stocks, Pepsi Cola Street Stocks, 7-Up 360 Sprints, Schaeffer Oil Mini Stocks, Ephrata Pioneer Muffler II Pure Stocks, and the Kim Janke State Farm Agent Youth Hornets. It’s Columbia Basin Herald Night at ERP. Gates open at 5pm with racing at 7pm. More information can be found at www.ephrataracewaypark.com .
