SANTEE, California — Most “homecoming” games and dances are in the fall, but this summer on Saturday night at the TOYOTA Speedway at Irwindale a “homecoming race” will be in full swing. There have been the true “core” group in the ASA Truck Series in 2010 that make up the top six drivers in the championship points which include points leader #71 Joey Licata Jr., #18 Mike Herda, #20 Taylor Miinch, #9 Jason Black and #10 Eric Sloan. Those drivers are vying for the top awards in the series like the 2010 Championship and Rookie-of-the-Year and continue to demonstrate their talent by racing side-by-side, lap after lap without tearing up too much fiberglass. As homecomings go, this race will bring ‘home’ drivers that are veterans to the series like Darren Young, Paul Bonaccorsi and Cole Cabrera. Darren Young, from Gilbert, Arizona, was a three-time ASA Speed Truck Champion in 2000, 2006 and 2008 and finished second overall two other times. With 30 years of racing experience, Young should have a great opportunity in the #3 United Nissan Chevy to bring home another victory in the ASA Truck Series. Paul Bonaccorsi, who raced with the Hatch team a few seasons ago, is a veteran road course racer who is ready to get back in the seat and see what Catlin’s #2 truck has in store for him. Bonaccorsi stated, “We are excited to race in the series again and are looking forward to running with these new guys”. He has rallied his ‘Rookie-of-the-Year” crew together and hopes that car chief Chris Birdsong can give him a set-up to take him to victory lane.

"The ASA Trucks are 2,450 pounds, full tube chassis, 108 inch wheelbase, 375 horsepower Van Gordon Racing V-8’s."

Another ‘veteran’ to the series that will be returning this Saturday night is newly 16-year old Cole Cabrera in his fast #53 AG SOURCE Magazine Chevy. Cole ran up front all last season and was the 2009 Rookie-of-the-Year. He has been running in other series like the SRL Touring series and hopes to make a few more ASA Truck Series races this season as well. Look for Cole to be a strong contender along with the regular drivers who have been running at the TOYOTA Speedway at Irwindale already this year. Other drivers like #1 Jeff Catlin and #12 Jim Putman are also seasoned veterans in the series and will be ready to battle with those ‘homecoming’ drivers in the 100-lap race.

As the veterans are poised to win, so are drivers like #51 Taylor Cuzick who won at TOYOTA Speedway at Irwindale in the last outing for the ASA Trucks. #5 Kevin Smith, #25 Shawn Steele and #88 Mike Kai are likely contenders as well with their experience in the series and at that track. The race is scheduled for 100-laps and the ASA Trucks have actually run 100 laps of green flag racing before and it wouldn’t be surprising to see that happen again with the impressive driving skills of all these drivers in the field. Bring your family out to see the “homecoming race” of the summer and who will be crowned Homecoming King at the end of the night.

Its “Family night” and kids under 15 get in free! Seven scintillating racing divisions will take to the twin-rings tracks of Toyota Speedway on Saturday from the super-serious Pepsi Super Late Models that are locked in a mid-season points battle to the fun and games of the Pick Your Part Outlaw Figure 8 machines, and conclude with the ASA Truck Series 100-lapper! For a full-price adult ticket (still only $15.00 since 1999) that’s only about $2.00 a division! And the whole experience is actually guaranteed any way! (After the first race of the night, if a fan is not happy with the show, they can go back to the ticket window - - within 15 minutes - -and get their admission price back!).
