POMBO CLASSIC RETURNS TO MADERA SPEEDWAY WITH SUPER MODIFIEDS

Al Pombo was one of the greatest drivers that ever drove a lap in Central California. Eighty years young Al still enjoys coming out to area race tracks selling his line of t-shirts and other memorabilia, but the ageless stories he delivers are free. Al is in a local hospital dealing with an illness so he will be unable to attend this event, but a very large “get well soon” card will be passed around the grandstand for fans to sign for him.

The ground pounding, fire breathing 410 Super Modifieds will race 50 blistering laps around the fastest 1/3 mile in the West in tribute to Al Pombo this Saturday night. Kody Swanson and A.J. Russell will race the Super Modifieds, as will Jim Burges and a host of other top drivers looking to capture this prestigious trophy.

Troy Regier will not be in the race this weekend, but Lonnie Adamson will be in familiar light blue number 98 S&S Motorsports Super that Troy normally drives.

“Troy was nearly killed in an off-road accident on New Years Eve. His recovery is on going. In the two races in which he competed this year, he was incapacitated for three days after each race. He is not totally retired. He is taking most of this year off to complete his physical recovery. He may run the last race of the year to see if his body can take the abuse any better after a few more months off. He'll make a decision at that time whether the retirement will be permanent” Gerald Laurie.

Both Kody and Tanner Swanson will compete in the BCRA midget race during the Pombo Classic, but they will have to deal with Chad Nichols, Nick Foster, and David Prickett to get to the trophy girls.

The MST’s, Legends, Sportsman, 4-Banger Two track Challenge and the BCRA vintage sprints and midgets are all a part of the under card for this great event!

The 2010 Pombo Classic is this Saturday night, grandstands open at 3:45 and tickets for an adult are just $20 thanks to a sponsorship of $5 per ticket from Hooters Restaurants. Kids five and under get in for free with a paying adult. There are discount tickets for seniors, juniors and discount family packs available as well.
