- The heat is on as many ASA Member Tracks and Sanctioned Series head into their mid-season stretch. Here is a look at what is happening this weekend in ASA Racing.
ASA SERIES
ASA MIDWEST TOUR - SUPER LATE MODELS & SPORTSMAN TOUR
(Raceway Park, Shakopee, MN)
The ASA Midwest Tour will make its final visit to the state of Minnesota for the season this Sunday night. Steve Carlson has a one point lead over Chris Wimmer in the standings and a 26-point lead over Ross Kenseth in the standings. The top-six is separated by 97 points.
The ASA Midwest Sportsman Tour will also be in action on Sunday night at Raceway Park. Chris Marek has a 54-point lead over Jay Kalbus in their point standings.

ASA INTERSTATE RACING ASSOCIATION SPRINT CAR SERIES
(Oshkosh SpeedZone, Oshkosh, WI & Eagle Valley Speedway, Abbotsford, WI)
Two events are on the schedule this weekend high flying 410 Winged Sprints. On Friday, they visit Oshkosh SpeedZone in Oshkosh, WI and then on Saturday, they will travel west to Eagle Valley Speedway in Abbotsford, WI.

This Saturday, an inaugural Late Model Series will punctuate the first annual Mike Ladika Remembrance sponsored by Beagles Bar. For the past four weeks, the Late Model drivers have been scrambling to make the Trophy Dash so they could qualify for a 20-lap $1,000 shootout this Saturday night. The Late Models, Sportsman, Pure Stock, Bandits, Six Shooters and FIRA/Rascal Outlaws will be in action. Fan gates open at 4 p.m. with on track autographs and Kids Rides at 5 p.m., racing at 6:30 p.m.

Three big days of racing is on tap this weekend for the 4th Annual Fred Brownfield Memorial. On Thursday, the North West Wingless Sprint and Midget Tour will be competing. Friday, NASCAR star Greg Biffle will be on hand to sign autographs and on the track is day one of the ASCS National Tour and the DAA Northwest Spec Late Model Series. Saturday night will see a complete ASCS show highlighted by the $10,092 to win Fred Brownfield Memorial. On Thursday the front gate opens at 4:30 pm, qualifying at 5:30 and racing to start around 6:30. Friday and Saturday tickets will go on sale at noon, front gate will open at 3:30 and the racing to start around 7:00 pm.

After a month off, the Super Late Models return to Orange Show Speedway to open the second half of their 12-race season with a 100-lap main event. It will be interesting to see if the time off has let anyone figure out how to beat David Ross, who has won five of the six races to date. Also on the program are the Team Too Pony Stocks (with Robby Hornsby Jr. going for his seventh win in as many starts), Interstate Batteries Factory Fours, Budweiser Legends Cars, M.C. Erectors Bandoleros and Tour Trucks. Gates open to the public at 4 p.m., the on-track autograph session is from 5:50 to 6:30 p.m. and the first race is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The CarbonX Rocky Mountain Challenge Series Late Models will complete their sixth race of the season at Rocky Mountain Raceways' ultra-fast oval on Saturday, July 17. Steve Jones claimed wins at Rocky Mountain Raceways last two RMCS races on May 8 and May 31. Bruce Quale, John Dillon and Brett Thompson have also secured wins this season. RMCS point leader John Newhouse will be a car to watch for. #26 Newhouse has placed in the top ten for every race this season and has three Top 5 finishes. Utah local Lynn Hardy also has three Top 5 finishes. Maverik Modifieds return to the track to continue the points chase for the ASA Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil National Championship. Only 7 points separate RMR point leader Bryan Wordelman and Nick Parker. Adult admission is $15. Youth admission (5-12) is $5. Gates open at 4 p.m., qualifying at 5 p.m., racing starts at 6 p.m.
