South Sound Speedway Late Model driver Tyler Allen is heading east to work with the King, Richard Petty, and his court of professional racers. Allen of Bellevue, Washington has been selected to participate in Richard Petty’s Driver Search II to be held September 13-16.

The top driver will be awarded a fully supported opportunity to qualify for, and compete in the ARCA Racing Series event at Rockingham Speedway on October 9th. “This is the opportunity I have been preparing for,” Allen said. The recent University of Washington Mechanical Engineering Graduate has been laser focused on pursuing his motorsports career. His career started with a year as a crew member learning to build and setup Late Model race cars. He then went on to design, manufacture and test critical suspension components for 4 years as part of the UW Formula SAE team and along the way always improving his racing skills at his home short track in Rochester, Washington. “I love the instant gratification of watching the lap times drop as we make changes to the car. Understanding the mechanics of these race cars has been critical to our success as a team.”

Richard Petty’s Driver Search II takes place at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Concord (N.C.) Speedway and Carolina Speedway in Kershaw, SC.

Competitors will demonstrate their abilities, and work with experts, in the areas of Car Control, Endurance, Track Management, Adaptability, Race Practices, Passing Exercises, Car Knowledge and Feel, Mechanical Knowledge, Speed, Communication and Marketability.

At 19 years old, Allen jumped into a limited late model at South Sound Speedway and began to gain the respect of the veteran drivers. The following year those drivers voted him 2009 Sportsman of the Year and he now consistently races in the top five of his class. Tyler continued his bid for the championship in the July 3rd race at South Sound Speedway. He drove his R&C Roofing Chevy Impala to a close 4th place finish.

Allen ended last season 4th in the Championship points and remains in the top 5 for the 2010 Season so far. Come watch the competition heat up at South Sound Speedway July 17th and follow Tyler’s season at AllenRacing.com.
