ANTELOPE, California — Paulie Harraka the driver of the No. 12 NAPA Gold Filters Toyota Camry from Bill McAnally Racing crossed the finish line in third when the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West returned to Portland International Raceway for the Bi-Mart Salute to the Troops “125”.
The first practice on Saturday had the No. 12 NAPA Gold Filters Toyota eighth on the time charts. Second practice, Harraka went to fifteenth and then qualified fifteenth the next day. Three laps into the 65 lap race, Harraka moved up into the top-ten. Under a caution at lap 17, crew chief Duane Knorr made the call to come in for fuel and return a lap later for tires. By lap 25, the No. 12 was in the top-five. After a restart at lap 37, the No. 88 of Michael Self and Harraka made contact sending the No. 12 car spinning. Five laps later, Harraka once again moved into the top-ten. He continued to race hard to take the checkered flag in third.
"Today's race at Portland International is the perfect example of what this season's been like for us,” said Harraka. “We were fast all race long, in a good position to put our NAPA Gold Filters Toyota in victory lane, and had the opportunity stolen from us. Still, we fought back really hard and, although still frustrated, I'm proud of the result. I took everything this car had and it shows how tough our NAPA Gold Filters Toyota is for us to come home with a solid finish."
Drive for Diversity driver Paulie Harraka was successful capitalizing on his road course success and moved into third in the chase for the 2010 series championship.
The Bi-Mart Salute to the Troops “125” will be televised on Thursday July 29th on SPEED Channel at noon pacific time. Please check your local listings. The next race for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West will be at Montana Raceway Park on August 7th.
