The Willow Springs Speedway will present their latest round of summer racing action this Saturday, July 31st. The quarter mile paved oval is located within the mammoth Willow Springs Motorsports Park in Rosamond-California. The Saturday schedule includes action from the speedway's late model, pro stock, hobby stock, mini stock and legend car divisions. Also, making a special guest appearance Saturday night will be the R.A.D. Experience Drifters and the So Cal Oval Karts.
In the speedway's late model division Chris Peedan is on top of the current points standings with a 31 point lead over Bobby Dezarov. The tight battle in the championship standings is between Anthony Mainella and Gene Fife who are third and fourth in the rankings but only separated by three points.
However, if you look at the results from the late model division's last appearance at the Willow Springs Speedway, back on June 26th, there was no evidence of any real domination by one driver. Five different names topped the charts in four different categories. The trend started with John Cran who set the fast time that night with a lap of 14.90 seconds. Gene Fife won the trophy dash at the last race, Randy Wilkins won the heat race while Chris Peedan won the main event. Those stats demonstrates a great deal of competitive diversity in this division.
In the pro stock ranks Bobby Dezarov, who performs double duty in the late models as well, leads the division standings and was the winner of the last race on June 26th. However he had to fend off Gary Marler to get that feature win. Don't be too suprised if Marler decides it's his turn to park his car in the speedway's victory lane this Saturday.
In hobby stock action Eric Rapos will be looking to repeat the hot night he enjoyed June 26th when he set fast time in qualifying, 17.17 seconds, and followed that up winning both the heat race and the feature. Despite his frequent consistent finishes, the local Rosamond driver still finds himself second to Matthew Wolfe in the standings who's holding a 41 point advantage. This is largely due to the fact that Rapos was unable to race on the night of April 17th. Expect him to be focused on eradicating that points deficit when the hobby stocks return to action this Saturday night.
In the mini stock division Tony Polisano will be looking for a repeat main event win he achieved last month. But he can also expect a repeat of seeing Rodney Bornhop in his rear view mirror. There are only six points separating these two drivers going into Saturday night's race.
On Saturday race day the gates will open at 12pm. Practice will be held beginning at 3pm followed by qualifying at 530pm. The green flag falls on the racing action under the lights at 7pm.
General admission for adults is $10 with children eight and under admitted free when accompanied by a paid adult. Fans also have the option of watching the action from the pits. From 3 to 7pm the speedway will be offering its fans $10 pit passes at the north gate. Fans also have the option of staging their own tailgate parties at the Willow Speedway. Parking is allowed in front of all four turns of the track . It provides fans an up close look at the racing while enjoying the comfort of their personal vehicles.
