Colo. Spgs., CO. -- Following a highly respectable 10th place finish and top rookie honors on the one mile oval at Pikes Peak International Raceway last weekend, the Bonicelli Racing Team and driver Burney Lamar are now setting their sights on the half mile oval at Mesa Marin Raceway in Bakersfield, CA..
After fixing up a little cosmetic damage from last weekends race, the Colorado Springs team will be preparing two cars for the coming two races in seven days on the west coast. Following this Saturday nights race at Mesa Marin, the next event is the following Saturday night on another half mile at Irwindale Speedway near Los Angeles. The team will be taking two cars in case a back-up is needed. Last weekends effort at PPIR elevated the young rookie from 18th to 13th in the overall NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Series point standings, and from 4th to 2nd in the rookie standings, only three points out of first.
"I have raced at Mesa Marin in late models and sprinters in the past, so with the Bonicelli team's past experiences with chassis and engine set-ups there, I think we'll do alright". The last time the W. Sacramento, CA. driver had the WaveShield - 4 Points Hotels Sheraton Pontiac Gran Prix on the Mesa Marin oval, it rained.
Everybodys hoping for better luck this weekend.![]()
