DILLON, South Carolina — Dillon Motor Speedway announced today that that the street stock driver Chris Powers has been suspended from competition for the remainder of the 2010 season. ASA, the sanctioning body of the Dillon Motor Speedway, supports the suspension of Power’s competitor’s license for unsportsmanlike conduct stemming from an incident that happened this past weekend.
Power’s was involved in a crash with a driver on the front straightaway Saturday night. The ensuing activities Powers’ was involved in created an unsafe environment and actions deemed detrimental to the sport of auto racing at Dillon Motor Speedway.
“Dillon Motor Speedway has the best short track drivers in the southeast, and we strive for great competition,” stated Owner Ron Barfield, Jr. “It has always been the goal of the racetrack to put on the best show we can for the wonderful fans every week, but we cannot, and will not tolerate the uncalled for acts that occurred this past weekend. We owe it the other drivers and fans to continue to strive for the best short track racing in this area’, added Barfield.
“I stated Saturday night that Chris Powers would need to meet with the track officials before he could race again, but ASA has taken the initial step forward and recommended suspension of his license for the rest of the year for actions detrimental to the sport of auto racing, and I agree with their decision” added track owner Ron Barfield Jr.
