ROSEVILLE, Ca — (August 22, 2010) - Tony Hunt won his 30th career USAC Sprint Car race at All American Speedway Saturday night with some exciting three-wide racing in front of his hometown fans.
"It's exciting when you get to another milestone," Hunt said. "I'll move on and go for another 10 to get to 40. I love the fun and competitiveness of racing. A lot of hometown fans were there to see us win and that's always great."
Shauna Hogg led the field at the green, but in the early laps Hogg wiggled her car and Ramos got in to her hard. Luckily, they were both able to keep on racing. Scott Pierovich moved up to second on lap five, with Luis Ramos sliding to third. Hunt moved up to second on lap seven.
There was some thrilling three-wide racing in the front with Hogg, Hunt and Ramos. Hunt got inside Hogg in turn one and took the lead on lap nine, while Pierovich moved up to second.
Hunt led five car lengths over Pierovich with Ramos and Hamilton nose to tail for third. Hogg stopped on the off ramp with an oil leak bringing out a caution on lap 17.
It was a single file restart and the top-five pulled away. Ramos, who was running in third, had Davey Hamilton all over his back bumper and Ramos worked hard to keep his position. With 30 down, it was Hunt, Pierovich, Ramos, Hamilton, and Rogers.
Pierovich narrowed Hunt's lead while Hunt had to deal with traffic. Pierovich started to fade in the end giving Hunt a 10-car length lead. Hamilton took over third from Ramos on lap 47. Tony Hunt took the checkered flag followed by Pierovich, Hamilton, Ramos, and Rogers.
"The first few laps were really challenging for the top six of us," Hunt said. "Whoever got to the front first, it would be hard to get around them. We found a hole and got to the front. We were racing two, three wide."
Donny Darter won in the Legends of the Pacific, followed by Stanislov Osterlund, Jeremy Wood, Tony Mangini and Fred Clement.
In NCMA Sprints Ed Amador took the checkered flag followed by Napa's David Goodwill, Rob Hammon, David Burchett and Bill Logan.
In the Young Guns race, Keegan Walmer came out on top, followed by Brandon White, Courtney Atkinson and Cody Thompson.
Michael Lewis won the 30-lap Ford Focus feature race after taking the lead on lap 12. Garett Peterson, Keegan Walmer, Cody Thompson, and Cody Gerhardt followed him across the finish line.
Next Saturday, August 28, All American Speedway will present NASCAR Championship race number 16, featuring Twin 44 Late Model races, Street Stocks and Modifieds. For more information go to: www.allamericanspeedway.com.
