PORTLAND, Oregon — Portland’s Keegan Walmer won his fourth USAC NorCal Young Guns Midget main event on Saturday night at All American Speedway in Roseville, Calif., closing the points gap to just 22 points between Walmer and Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle teammate Brandon White in the championship.

Walmer also set fast-time in qualifying to make for a huge night in the Reser’s-sponsored mount out of the Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle stable. After finishing second in the dash race, Walmer started third in the 20 lap main event.

Walmer moved into second on the opening lap and worked to reel in White. It took Walmer just eight laps to complete the move on White and take control of the race.

Walmer cruised home to a comfortable 1.4 second win in the caution-free event.

In the USAC NorCal Ford Focus Midget division, Walmer qualified fourth quick with a time of 13.817 seconds around the one-third mile asphalt oval track.

A strong performance in heat race two saw Walmer lead all eight laps over the field to win.

Starting fourth in the 30 lap feature, Walmer diced through the pack to second by lap seven. Walmer reeled in teammate Cody Thompson and took over the lead on lap 11, but fell to second on lap 12. Walmer fought off a hard challenge for second for much of the race but lost that position on lap 29.

The third place performance helped Walmer jump to fourth in the USAC NorCal Ford Focus Midget standings with just a few races left to go.

“Keegan’s success in the USAC Young Guns Midget Series is starting to show as he continues to tally race wins,” driver coach Ron Sutton said. “He is closer than ever to his first USAC Ford Focus Midget victory and he could pull it off at Stockton!”

A twin feature billing for the USAC NorCal Ford Focus Midgets is scheduled for Stockton 99 Speedway on September 11. With Walmer competing in both Young Guns and Ford Focus Midgets, he is slated to race in three features in one night.
