PINE GROVE, California — Matt Scott scored his ninth straight podium finish and tenth career NASCAR Late Model win, by winning the second of the twin 44 main events at All American Speedway on Saturday night in Roseville, Calif.
By also setting fast-time over the 18 Late Models on hand, Scott’s career stats include six fast-times, 10 wins, and 44 top-tens in 50 career starts.
“I cannot thank my crew enough for this one,” Scott said. “We had to test Friday because we found out that our rear end was broken, and then we also made some adjustments to the car between the two races tonight that really did the trick.”
The 18 year-old driver also stretched his points lead to 124 points over Jonathan Mawhinney.
Scott won the pole by just .036 seconds over Jacob Gomes with a lap of 13.867 seconds around the one-third mile asphalt oval.
Starting sixth in the first 44 lap main event of the night, Scott was up to third by lap nine. On lap 12, Scott passed 2009 track champion Jason Romero for second.
After a pair of cautions, Scott engaged Gomes. On lap 27, Scott began working on the leader and looking to the inside. With five laps to go, Scott moved to the inside of Gomes.
The crowd of more than 1500 fans rose to their feet as Gomes and Scott went side-by-side to the finish, with Gomes edging Scott by just .015 seconds at the line in a near photo finish.
Gomes spun an invert of five for the second 44 lap event, which put Scott fourth on the grid. Scott moved into third quickly and patiently worked on second place Chris Scribner.
On lap 19, Scott passed Scribner for second place. A caution lap 25 bunched the field up, and Scott took the lead from Ron Chunn on the restart.
Scott drove away to a comfortable win by leading the final 19 laps to the checkered flag.
The night was another career-defining effort for the 18 year-old driver who is looking to move up in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West in 2011. Scott has a strong lead in the All American Speedway track championship with a chance to clinch the title in next weekend’s TOYOTA/TRD 100.
Matt Scott Racing is also up to third in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series California standings, just one point out of fourth.
