MARYSVILLE, Washington — Long time veteran racing announcer Scott Ellsworth announced that he would be retiring on September 25th at Evergreen Speedway. A career that started back in 1970 at Portland Speedway in Portland, OR under the tutelage of Ron Ail is ready for closure. During the last 40 years Ellsworth has announced at over 2,800 racing events. That number does not include the countless baseball, soccer, basketball and other specialty shows he has done.

“It has been a phenomenal run”, said Ellsworth. “I was asked if there was one thing I could do that I had not done and what would it be. I answered, nothing; I have been able to reach all my goals and then some. Although, I do have one-regret, I wish I had been paid by the word, I would be a billionaire. My goal at every event was to keep the fan informed and entertained. It now has come time for me to pass the torch on to the new people in the business. It is important to me that they carry on with what we the older people in this sport have developed and built. I will still be slightly involved by doing some specialty races when requested by track promoters.” Ellsworth continued (he has never been short for words), “not many people can say they were able to do what they loved for 40 years. I have loved car racing since my father took me to a race in Daytona on the beach when I was eight. The good Lord blessed me with a voice that is conducive for announcing and I am blessed to be able to use it. I have met many people during the run and made some very close friends. I can’t thank the many promoters that trusted me with their events. It will be a sad but at the same time joyful day on the 25th when I put the mic down.”

Evergreen Speedway has some special things planned for Ellsworth on that last race. They are inviting his family, promoters, friends, racers and fans to be a part of the very special send off.
