Toyota Speedway at Irwindale

The SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series will be in action this Saturday night at Toyota Speedway for the “NTS, Inc 100”, the seventh event of the ten race 2010 SRL championship.

NEWS and NOTES:

CHAMPIONSHIP PICTURE: After winning his second race of 2010 (Stockton and Irwindale), Jonathon Gomez moved into second position in the championship standings with 934 points. Derek Thorn moved back to the championship lead at 941, after his second place photo finish to Gomez at the July 17th race at Toyota Speedway. Jim Pettit II is third with 915, followed by Kyle Cattanach with 853 and Ryan Foster at 835.

MOMENTUM: Entering this weekend’s event, Gomez carries the most momentum with a win at Stockton, a second place at Madera and a win at Toyota Speedway, in his last three series starts.

RECORD NUMBER: A record number of 35 entries are expected for Saturday’s SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series “NTS, Inc. 100” at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale.

RETURNING: Defending SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series champion MK Kanke will be back in action this weekend after being released by his doctor to compete. Kanke was forced to undergo surgery following the Madera event to remove screws that were in place after breaking his hip in the spring of 2008.

ALSO RETURNING: K&N Pro Series West championship leader Eric Holmes will be back behind the wheel of the #18 Moeller Bros. Chevrolet. Josh Combs and Troy Ermish will also be back for Saturday’s “NTS, Inc 100”.

FIRST STARTS: Dan Holtz and Mike Lay will make their first SRL starts of 2010. Chris Holloway, Bobby Hodges and Chris Winter will be making their first career SRL starts this weekend.

K&N YOUNG GUNS and ROOKIE LEADER: Seventeen-year-old Jacob Gomes leads both the K&N Young Guns standings and the Victory Circle Chassis Rookie-of-the-Year chase.

LEGENDS: Cale Kanke remains on top of the SRL Legends Tour championship followed closely by Austin Reed and Darren Amidon.

TIMES: Spectator gates open at 4pm, the King Taco On-Track Autograph Session starts at 5:45pm followed by SRL qualifying at 7pm. Joining the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series this Saturday night will be the Langers Juice S2 Series, Legend Cars and the Bandoleros. More information; www.toyotaspeedwayatirwindale.com.
