WORLD OF OUTLAW SPRINT CAR SERIES, 55TH RACE OF THE SEASON, FIRST NIGHT OF TWO AT SKAGIT SPEEDWAY IN WASHINGTON

ALGER, Washington — There is nothing like a win, just ask any race car driver, including Jac Haudenschild of

Wooster, OH, who races the Carnahan, Owens Corning Fiberglass R19 Sprint Car that claimed the victory of the World of Outlaw Sprint Car Series sanctioned thirty lap feature event at Skagit Speedway in Alger, WA

"That's the best the car's felt in a long time. Leonard and Marie (R19's crew) did a good job. Steve Beitler (Skagit Speedway Promoter) did a beautiful job on the track. The car was good all night, we were good in traffic, in open track and you can't ask for a better car than that. I had fun racing up there with Tim (Kaeding). I want to thank Carnahan, Owens Corning Fiberglass, all my sponsors, all my crew and all the fans for coming out." said Haudenschild

When the green flag flew out, it was Haudenschild and Kaeding of San Jose, CA behind the wheel of the Roth DTR Transport #83 duking it out for the lead. Haudenschild powered to the front with Kaeding in second and it would be these two drivers racing each other while holding off the balance of the field for twenty-nine laps.

During the race the caution flew out as early as the second lap when a Sponsors sign flew of the fence going into the third turn. On the ninth lap, Kerry Madsen (NSW) was stopped with mechanical woes that would retire him from the race.

The night had started good for Madsen as he turned a 11,281 second lap on this three-tenths of a mile dirt track for fast time, finished second in his heat race and scored a third in the Dash, which netted him with a third place start .in the feature race.

Pulling out the next yellow, was Shane Stewart (OK). Stewart was stopped just out of the second turn when Joey Saldana (IN) raced into the turn, catching the front of Stewart's car, just enough to gently turn his sprint onto it's side. This changed the yellow flag into a red flag. Stewart was out of the race but Saldana was able to tag the rear of the field for the new green. Saldana, who was racing in third prior to contact with Steward, now had only five laps to try and recover some of the positions he lost.

Kaeding had scored all but the final lap in second place, as well as having led eight of the laps in this race, when it looked like his motor had blown and to top it off, he also lost a muffler. Under WoO rules, losing a muffler during a race, disqualifies the driver and car, for that race. Kaeding had a good run until his mishap so it had to be a big disappointment to be designated a last place finish.

The final lap of the race saw Jason Sides of Bartlett, TN, in the Sides owned #7s, crossing the line in second.

"It was a good night for us. Tim (Kaeding) lost a motor there at the end and we got around him in the last corner of the last lap. The track suited us pretty well. We'll have to see what it's (the track) like tomorrow (day two of this two day event)." said Sides.

Donny Schatz of Fargo, ND was awarded third place at the checkered, driving the Tony Stewart Racing Armor-All #15.

"We had a good car at the end. This place can be tricky and I'm glad to get a third place finish. Tomorrow night's race here is forty laps and I'm looking forward to that. Tonight was fun and I was able to gain some points." said Schatz

Fourth place went to Steve Kinser (IN) with Danny Lasoski (MO), Jason Solwold (WA), Sammy Swindell (TN), Jonathan Allard (CA), Jason Meyers (CA) and Sam Hafertepe, Jr. rounding out the top ten.

Swindell raced from an eighteenth start to score in seventh at the line, winning the KSE Hard Charger Award.

Scoring in eleventh, was Paul McMahan (TN) followed by, Lucas Wolfe (PA), Kraig Kinser (IN), Craig Dollansky (MN), Travis Jacobson (WA), Seth Bergman (WA), Saldana, Chad Kemenah (OH), Ben Gregg (AZ), Stewart, Brad Sweet (CA), Madsen, Jayme Barnes (unable to start but scored in this position) and Kaeding.

Gregg is racing his "Rookie" season with the WoO's and tonight won the Penske Power Position Award.
