It has been a busy week at the Cottage Grove Speedway as three races have been ran in the span of five days and all three turned out to be very entertaining. The festivities really began on Tuesday the 31st of August at Coiner Park where the inaugural Chicken Wing Cook-Off took place. The event proved to be a success as several fans made the visit to downtown Cottage Grove where cars were also on display. Wednesday night the Cottage Grove Speedway had the pleasure to host the World of Outlaw Series along with the local Late Models. On Saturday and Sunday the Kage Karts hosted the inaugural Northwest Kart Classic which seen teams travel from all over the Northwest to try and take away the prize money.
In the World of Outlaw Sprint Car event Lucas Wolfe of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania looked dominant despite only visiting the track for his second time. By lap eleven Elk River, Minnesota’s Craig Dollansky grabbed the lead but would find himself fighting to keep it with Danny Lasoski of Dover, Missouri. Lasoski would secure the lead on lap twenty three but was by no means out of the woods as he repelled attacks from several challengers. As the white flag came out a red flag incident occurred which allowed a green-white-checker scenario with Lasoski holding on to win his fourth career victory at the Cottage Grove Speedway and his first win of the season with the series.
Donny Schatz of Minot, North Dakota rallied from an early race tangle to get second place while Joey Saldana of Brownsburg, Indiana held on for third. Two drivers from Bartlett, Tennessee rounded up the top five with Sammy Swindell finishing in fourth and Jason Sides earning fifth. Fast time of the night went to Jason Meyers of Clovis, California at 10.411 seconds while heat race winners were Saldana, Swindell, and Danny Lasoski the winner of the trophy dash would be Lucas Wolfe.
In the Late Model feature Lisa Stroup of Redmond was the early leader but would be overtaken by Mike Miller of Springfield. Miller who was en route to his fourth victory of 2010 at the Cottage Grove Speedway led for much of the race until Rick Wyatt of Salem made a move down low and Miller got sideways and collected several other cars. Wyatt was the leader and with the incident happening with only two laps to go he was able to go on to win his first win of the year.
John Duty of Happy Valley was able to muster a second place finish while Lisa Stroup rounded up the podium. Jake Mayden of Cheshire finished in the fourth place position while Craig Hanson of Albany rallied to a fifth place. No qualifications or trophy dashes were ran during the night as it was only open to the top twenty-four cars in points. Two heat races were run with Trevor Glaser of Tangent winning the first and John Duty winning the second.
Saturday night hosted the first night of Northwest Kart Classic on 1/8 mile track in the infield. Two sets of twelve lap heat races were ran on Saturday with drivers accumulating enough points to lock themselves in the scramble. After the races Saturday a barbecue was put on courtesy of Mom’s Snack Shack. On Sunday afternoon the rest of the program was ran starting off with scrambles and then followed by main events (results below).
Well race fans that does it for this week’s edition be sure and make it this Saturday night as several classes will be having their final race of the season.
