This Saturday night will see the final showdown for four classes at the Cottage Grove Speedway while we also pay homage to the ninth anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks. As mentioned it will be the final race of the season for the Limited Sprints, Modifieds, Late Models, and All-American Street Stocks. To make things particularly special will be the fact that no heat races will be ran simply only qualifying and a fifty lap main event.
In the Limited Sprints only four points separate current standings leader Heath Shelton of Drain and Zack Spaulding of Springfield. Both drivers are looking for their first career track championship while Shelton already has one main event victory this season. On top of those two battling for position one there may be a upset in the works as Creswell’s Jesse Thistle is third in points only twenty eight markers back and the fourth place driver Mike Carrothers of Cottage Grove is only thirty-five points behind Shelton.
In the Modfied ranks Braedon Hand of Cottage Grove has a large enough point lead to earn his third straight track championship. Braedon’s father Robert who has the most track championships at the Cottage Grove Speedway (11) is the only other Modified driver to have won more than two consecutive titles with a total of four which he earned from 1992-95. Going into Saturday night Hand has a one hundred fifty-six point lead over second place Curtis Towns also of Cottage Grove.
The Late Models is another class in which the title is determined but the racing always splendid. Mark Carrell of Redmond has a one hundred thirty-six point advantage over second place Mike Miller of Springfield. In what has undoubtedly been dubbed a breakout year for the class Carrell currently leads the season with most wins at four over Mike Miller’s three.
Finally the All-American Street Stocks points title is a hot affair between two brothers from Jasper T.J. and Andrew Langan. Fourteen separate the two with 2008 champ and older brother T.J. leading the tally of defending track champion Andrew. The two have had quite the battles with one another all year long how will it conclude it’s anyone’s guess.
So there you have it race fans this Saturday night will be the culmination to this year’s fantastic action for four classes at the Cottage Grove Speedway. Pit gate open at 2 PM while front gates open at 4 PM with qualifying beginning at about 5:30 PM.
