
This Saturday Night at Grays Harbor Raceway, it’s Championship Night presented by ROXY 94.5/ Toads Microtel/ Our Community Credit Union. Grays Harbor Raceway is located at the Fairgrounds in Elma, all five ASA Track Member divisions will be in competition for Season Championship, including, the Whitney’s Auto Group 360 Sprint Cars, Shipwreck Beads Modifieds, Triple X Ford Focus Midgets, Cut Rate Auto Parts Hobby Stocks and the Hornets. Saturday Night’s program will be a little different as there will be no heat races, the top six in points in each class will not qualify, they will run a trophy dash, that will determine the first three rows of the main event. All other cars will qualify and start straight up on time, fast time will start seventh in each main.
The Shipwreck Beads Modified division will go down to wire in the closest points battle in the track’s history, last year’s champion Josh Muller from Montesano and 2008 Champion Scott Miller from Shelton are tied at 1057 points. Lurking back 41 points behind is another Shelton driver Craig Moore, if Moore wins and Muller and Miller finish nineteenth or twentieth Moore will win the championship. Otherwise whoever finishes in front of the other will win the championship as only main event points are given on Championship Night. Aberdeen’s Joe German holds down fourth with 928, McCleary’s Jim Oien rounds the top five with 922.
Sprint Car points leader Seth Bergman from Snohomish will be looking for his first ever Championship in the Whitney’s Auto Group Sprint Car division. Bergman leads Enumclaw’s Henry Van Dam by 79 points 798 to 719, Shelton’s Jay Cole holds down third position in the standings with 681 points, followed by Raymond’s Glenn Borden Jr the 2009 Champion 663 points. Tacoma’s Shawn Rice holds down the fifth position with 659 points.
The Triple X Ford Focus division has last year’s Champion Seth Hespe from Snohomish leading the point’s battle by 52 points 863 to 811 over Springfield, Oregon’s Alison Journey. Hespe also claimed the 1st Annual Championship for Washington State Racing Series for Ford Focus Midgets last weekend, beating out Poulsbo’s Garret Johnson by 11 points 546 to 535. Hoquiam’s Ariel Biggs holds down third with 771, followed by last week’s winner Reese Goetz from Snohomish with 734. Johnson moved into the top five with 674 points.
In the Cut Rate Hobby Stock division Aberdeen’s Zack Simpson should win his fourth Championship in a row as he leads Tom Sweatman by 74 points 1004 to 930. Jack Parshall Jr. sits 27 points behind Sweatman with 913, Olympia’s Eddie Blood stayed in fourth with 876 points followed by top Rookie Tom Hecker from Spanaway with 842 points.
The front gates open at 4:30 pm, qualifying at 5:30 and racing to start around 6:30.
