ROSEVILLE, California — This coming Thursday, September 16, through Saturday, September 18, West Capital Raceway Alumni Association will present its sixth annual All American Vintage Classic Car show and racing at the Placer County Fairgrounds and All American Speedway in Roseville. The annual event showcases the classic vintage racecars that raced at West Capital Speedway in days gone by.
West Capital Raceway, a quarter mile oval clay track opened on May 25, 1947. The BCRA Midgets raced the very first race at the Speedway that day. In 1954, a half-mile track was added. The track went through several owners, promoters and sanctioning bodies over the years, but one thing remained the same -- the action the track provided was the best short track, open wheel racing, week-in and week-out, in the USA.
Over the years, every type of racing was contested on the track. Midgets, Hardtops, Super Modifieds, Sprint Cars, Stock Cars, and Motorcycles were watched by generations of fans. Unfortunately, the track closed in 1980 when the land was sold to a developer.
In 1998, the West Capital Raceway Alumni Association was formed to preserve the memories from the track. The Hall of Fame started in 1999, and in 2005, the Hall of Fame event was moved to All American Speedway in Roseville. The following year, 85 vintage cars came to the track and that number has steadily increased every year.
Beginning Thursday, the event will feature Vintage Car Racing, memorabilia displays, a silent auction, raffle, model car display, and a static racecar display. There will be a market where you can purchase tee shirts, jackets, calendars, Christmas ornaments, hats, artwork, and vintage racing DVDs, books, and more.
