It s Breast Cancer Awareness night at the Speedway and the track and all of its fine sponsors want women everywhere to know that it wants them to be aware, to take care, to do what ever it takes to understand this deadly disease, and to advance how the fight goes.
Ladies (and gentlemen) please join us for some Super Saturday Night Short Track at LA s Half-Mile Superspeedway Hot days are just right for a cool night at the Speedway.
This Saturday there ll be a unique LADIES ONLY front wheel drive DEMOLITION DERBY on tap as one of the fun highlights of the night that will also see five NASCAR divisions all dukeing it out the last few races of the 2010 championship season with multi-way points battles at the top of each!
And, remember, kids under 12 are free too Economical Family Fun!
The Auto Club Late Models will come out swinging this Saturday with only this race and the series finale on October 16 left in the 2010 championship. Rookie Rod Johnson Jr., winner of six of the fourteen races run this far has a 32-point advantage over 2009 division champ Nick Joanides, so it looks like its Canyon Country against Woodland Hills for the 2010 title and all that goes with that honor. Of course Bakersfield s Chris Holloway doesn t exactly see it that way. Only 18 points back of Joanides and one race win (50 points) arrears of Johnson, he s got a (good) chance to be a spoiler here and a outside chance at the big Lebowski if bad racing luck happed to befall the two front runners. Stay Tuned better still be at the Speedway in person on Saturday night!
Ryan Partridge has had a remarkable season so far. The Rancho Cucamonga resident won the first 10 races of the season in the King Taco Super Trucks. And then along came races 11 and 12 where the event number almost matched his meager point totals (16 and 14). Partridge s poor showings in the last two races have tightened up the points chase with Monrovia s Todd Cameron now posing a real threat only 20 points behind Partridge (530 to 510) with only two races left on the books. And rookie Ken Maier Jr. from Acton is 30 back of Cameron. It remains to be seen if Partridge can regain his winning form in the last two go-rounds of this one, and there are 20 other KTST drivers that are ready to pounce if he doesn t.
The Vista Paint Super Stocks are also back for their second-last event of 2010. Santa Clarita resident Rich DeLong III has held the lead all season long and comes into Saturday night s event 58 points to the good over Bryan Harrell from Riverside. DeLong has won the most races in the series, and Harrell has a doggedly consistent finishing record. 58 points with two races left to go is not all that much of a comfort zone really, and LaVerne s Gary Read (in third place right now at 534) sue is not going to roll over and let the aforementioned duo get clear of him This is another down to the wire NASCAR Saturday night short track adventure, that fans want to be at the track to see in person. These (relatively) affordable stock cars all run on pure adrenalin. The prize money is OK, but building and running (and doing well with on a tough track like Toyota Speedway) your own race car is the real reason for this division, and the reason that the races are always so intense.
And then there s the Ken Porter Classic Stocks. These bone-stock machines really put driving skill to the test, add to that, these bolides race on the tough, tight, third mile inner oval of Toyota s twin ring race track. With only 4 degrees of banking and turns that are 36% tighter than the half-mile, this division is a real workout for drivers. It also has the longest to go in series races for 2010, this race will be number 9 in the 11-race championship.
As it stands, Ken Michaelian, from Lawndale, has a 16-point lead over his nearest pursuer, Chatsworth s Mike Colato, Jr. 436 to 420. Ken s brother, Harry (Lawndale too) is hanging tough at 400 even in third, and crowd favorite (the pride of Canyon Country) Tommy Mason is spooling up for a late run at the 2010 crown with 362 in fourth. The track s catch-all Open Comp. division for older machines will (as usual) be run concurrently with the Classics which always leads to great fun and heroics on the quick third mile.
This might be a good point to put in a plug for the King Taco On-Track Autograph session where kids old and young can meet drivers like all of the above and more. The 5:45PM event is a great way to get to meet these young and old(er) gladiators and to get a close-up look at their mounts for the night. It s great part of the good deal at Toyota Speedway and a big part of the night for many. As always, Gates open at 4PM and the NASCAR racing starts with the anthem and the call precisely at 7.
GUARANTEED: Earlier in the year new fans and folks who just have never gotten around to visiting the Speedway were invited to buy their tickets with a 100% money back guarantee: If, after the first race of the evening, any of our guests are not completely satisfied with the advertised excitement level, all they have to do is return to the ticket window for a full refund of their ticket price The Money Back May offer brought a number of new fans aboard and not one took the track up on the guarantee.
That policy is now part of the regular deal at every NASCAR race at the Speedway.
BIO: Toyota Speedway opened its doors in 1999 to great crowds and great racing. In subsequent years the banked half-mile oval has seen hundreds of thousands of miles of close, competitive racing witnessed almost two million intense, in-person, short-track/tall-racing fans.
