
The Havasu 95 Speedway will be opening their spectator gates this Saturday for round three of their 2010-2011 winter racing season. The ASA sanctioned quarter mile paved oval, located in the Sara Park complex in Lake Havasu City-Arizona, will be presenting a full slate of action from their Legend, ASA Street Stock, Factory Stock and Bandolero divisions. Highlighting the evening will be a visit by the Lucas Oil Modified Racing Series, presented by Rockstar Energy Drink, who will be wrapping up their 2010 championship with a 75 lap feature.
For fans of Legend car racing the speedway will be debuting their new "I Love Legends" special racing series sponsored by the Parker-Arizona based Gene Price Motorsports a distributor of high performance racing parts and equipment. The special four race series will award a $1,000 post season bonus to the series champion. The debut race Saturday night will pay $300 to the winner of the 30 lap feature.
This race already has an impressive pre entry list featuring the likes of Santee-California's Darren Amidon who is well established in this type of racing and no stranger to winning features. Also on the pre entry list are Michael Glazier, who will be towing his car in from Las Vegas, and Quincy-California's Steve Ross. Representing Lake Havasu City in this race will be Zac Price and Kyle Niquette.
The youngsters in their small, but very fast, Bandolero cars will also be debuting the second annual Sam Nichols Electric Bandolero River Series, presented by Havasu Legends and Bandoleros. This is a special ten race points series between the Havasu 95 Speedway and the Lucas Oil I 10 Speedway, located in Blythe-California. The points champion will receive a $500 U.S. savings bond.
In addition to exciting racing, this series is a development series and helps to breed the future drivers who will someday move up to larger car divisions and perhaps even the national level. The series is well supported by the families of the drivers, speedway officials, local businesses and the racing fans.
The ASA Street Stocks are one of the major racing staples at the Havasu 95 Speedway and the fans can expect plenty of action from them when they roll out onto the track Saturday night. Bryant Sutterfield leads the series points standings with 98 points based on winning the season opening race and finishing second during the October 9th race. But it's a very slim points lead. Sutterfield is only six points ahead of Rick Zirges and Rick Bezansen who are tied for second in the standings. Also not to be overlooked here is the presence of Doug Humpheries who won the October 9th main event.
The fan favorite Factory Stocks will also see provide plenty of action Saturday night. Jack Snell, who won the season opening race, leads the current standings with 94 points. But that's only a six point advantage over "Jumbo" John Thorpe who won the October 9th main event feature. Albert Remedios is also very involved in this early season points race and holds down third in the standings ten markers from the top.
The main event of all the main events scheduled Saturday night at the Havasu 95 Speedway will be the special visit from the Lucas Oil Modified Racing Series, presented by Rockstar Energy Drink. The E3 Spark Plugs 75 will feature up to 22 thunder making, ground shaking, open wheel modifieds concluding the series' 2010 series. The race is 75 full green flag laps because this series does not count yellow flag laps.
With the series running it's final race of the season that means a champion is going to be crowned. The fans are going to be treated to an intense championship run Saturday night. There are only eight points separating drivers Jim Mardis and Tim Morse in a title run that awards the champion $3,500 in post season bonus money and sponsor merchandise. The E3 Spark Plugs 75 is expected to be a very intense affair.
The Havasu 95 Speedway begins on Friday night with a test and tune session for the teams from 6 to 9 pm. This practice session is open to the public free of charge. On Saturday race day the racing will begin at 6pm. Ticket prices are $12 general admission and $10 for seniors, the military and the handicapped. Kids tickets, ages six to 16, are $6 while kids five and under are admitted free when accompanied by a paid adult. Lake Havasu High School students will receive one dollar off of their admission by presenting their school ID cards. The speedway also offers a family pack for $25 which admits two adults and two kids.
