The first heat was won by Britton Bock in his own 67 TCR/Esslinger over 7 time BCRA Champion Floyd Alvis and 3rd was BCRA President Rick Holbrook followed by Shasta Raceway Park CEO Rick Faeth, Mark Merek and Jonathon Foster. Foster Jr won the second heat over Dillon Silverman in Rick Young's Spike/EcoTec followed by dash winner LaHorgue, and Nichols. Dan Parker in his own immaculate #38 Stewart/Van Dyne was working on his fuel system and failed to take the green.

In the cool of the Lakeport evening, ten Midgets took the green flag with LaHorgue taking the lead over a tightly bunched field. Jonathon Foster took the green, but was experiencing handling problems and immediately drove to the pits. LaHorgue continued to lead the field when teammate Faeth lost a motor on lap 6 with the yellow flag slowing the field. On lap 18, while still leading the pack, LaHorgue's car lost fire and he lost the lead to Nichols who was shadowing LaHorgue every move. LaHorgue was able to refire and return to the race.
