BAKERSFIELD, California — When Brennan Newberry travels to Irwindale for the 8th Annual Toyota All Star Showdown, he’ll bring two well-prepared K&N Pro Series cars and plenty of confidence. Toyota Speedway at Irwindale (TSI) has provided the twenty-year old driver from Bakersfield with some memorable moments in his young racing career. Although he has yet to earn an illustrious win at the Southern California track, you can’t help but notice the smile on his face as he heads to TSI.
“We had a great run at our last K&N Pro Series race at Irwindale in July. We ran up front all night and were in second with just a few laps to go before we dropped out due to mechanical issues. It was still a great run for our NTS Motorsports team, and a real confidence booster for me.” stated Newberry.
When Newberry and his NTS team returned to Toyota Speedway at Irwindale for the season ending CANIDAE California Classic for the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series, Newberry again had a great run, by setting fast time and coming home with a top five finish.
“Crew Chief Gary Collins and our NTS Motorsports team always put a real comfortable car under me at Irwindale and that seems to work well for us as we have had great performance there throughout the year,” Newberry added. “We look forward to hitting the track on Friday to see where we stack up against all the teams who come to the Showdown, but we feel really good with our performance we’ve had at Irwindale over the past season.”
The 2010 race season was a breakout year for Newberry as he saw a tremendous amount of success in running fulltime in SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series, as well as four NASCAR K&N Pro Series events. Newberry finished fourth in the final point standings in the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series, and claimed the inaugural K&N Young Guns Championship for drivers 23 years old and younger in the SRL.
The #39 Metal Mulisha/NTS Motorsports Team plans to run select SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series events, along with select K&N Pro Series East and West events in 2011. Following this weekend’s Showdown, Newberry and the NTS Motorsports Team’s next event will be the NASCAR K&N Pro Series “3 Amigos Organic Blanco 100” at Phoenix International Raceway on February 24th.
