CONCORD, Northcarolina — Once a season, US Legend Cars International and INEX present an individual in the Legends Car realm of racing with the INEX Bilstein Madonna Award, which is awarded for motorsports excellence around the world. On Saturday, January 22nd, 2011, at the 2010 INEX International Awards Banquet at Charlotte Motor Speedway (NC) in The Speedway Club, the prestigious honor and trophy was awarded to California-native Steven Cantrell.

“I am humbled and honored to receive the 2010 INEX Bilstein Madonna award,” said Cantrell. “I have won races and championships, but this award and trophy is something special. I wasn’t expecting this.”

After winning many races early in his career in California, Cantrell relocated to North Carolina in 2008 after being accepted to the NASCAR Technical Institute in Mooresville, North Carolina, graduating in July of 2009. The 15 years of racing experience, along with his NTI training, has helped him on and off the track, whether he is driving or turning wrenches on his own car, or customers’ cars at Devo Motorsports.

During the 2010 racing season, 19-year-old Cantrell spent his on-track time racing in the Legends Car Pro division at asphalt ovals across the southeast, winning at tracks like Charlotte Motor Speedway (NC), Anderson Motor Speedway (SC) and Lanier National Speedway (GA). Cantrell also raced in three of the most-important races during the season – the Legends Million at Charlotte Motor Speedway (NC), the Legends Asphalt Nationals at Langley Speedway (VA) and the Road Course World Finals at Infineon Raceway (CA) – earning the highest-average finish of any driver in the world at the events with a third, second and a victory respectively.

While Cantrell might be the one behind the wheel of his race car, he knows success on and off the track is a team effort, whether it is his crew, his family or his sponsors.

“I have to thank Devo Motorsports, Quality Door & Trim, Cantrell Construction and Pacheco Power Center for their support,” said Cantrell. “I also have to thank my crew chief Sheldon Crouse for helping me each and every week at the track, US Legend Cars Engine Shop for their motors, INEX for giving us a great series to race in, and all of my competitors for some great racing during the season.

“There are many people that have helped me throughout my career,” continued Cantrell. “I want to thank all of them for their support, especially my parents and my entire family. Being awarded the Bilstein Madonna Award is a highlight of my racing career, and I share this with everyone that has made me who I am today.”
