DAYTONA BEACH, Florida — For many short track racers, most would like an opportunity to demonstrate their talents with one of the top teams in the sport today. For the fourth year in a row, the American Speed Association will team up with Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil and Joe Gibbs Racing for the Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil ASA Member Track National Championship.

Last year, Bryan Wordelman won the Maverik Modified track championship at Rocky Mountain Raceways in West Valley City, Utah. His season record was up against other ASA Member Track champions, and by a margin of 0.0028, he won the National Championship over Dustin Rumley, the track champion from Ace Speedway, an ASA Member Track in Altamahaw, NC.
In October, 2010 Wordelman along with his wife Amy and father Don, flew to Charlotte, NC where he had a tryout with Joe Gibbs Racing. "It was an awesome experience, still cannot believe it. I cannot put it into words," Wordelman said at the end of his tryout. "We knew about the Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil ASA Member Track National Championship, but only one guy wins it each year. I never dreamed that I would be that one person."
Along with the tryout, Wordelman was able to have a 45-minute one-on-one meeting with JD Gibbs, President of Joe Gibbs Racing. He also got the opportunity to meet Coach Joe Gibbs himself.
"I had the great pleasure to meet Bryan and his family last October," JD Gibbs said. "Our partnership with ASA in this program is giving us at Joe Gibbs Racing a great opportunity to meet the some of the best short track racers. We are very proud to do this for the fourth year in a row, and I personally cannot wait to meet the 2011 National Champion later this year. We wish the best of luck to everyone this season."
The National Championship will be available to drivers who participate in the premier division at ASA Member Tracks across the United States. They must be an ASA Member in good standing.
Speednetdirect.com, also for the fourth year in a row, will be tabulating the unique championship point system that uses a proprietary formula. Some of the factors include finishes, wins, number of cars passed, and number of events. Plus, the driver must also be the 2011 track champion at their ASA Member Track.
Past National Champions are Cary Stapp, Thunderhill Raceway (2008), Tommy Cloce, Adirondack Speedway (2009) and Bryan Wordelman, Rocky Mountain Raceways (2010).
