It’s been well documented that Trevor Bayne, and the win by the Wood Brothers team was one of the most shocking in Daytona 500 history. Also shocking was the third-place finish by Front Row Motorsports driver David Gilliland. The majority of Gilliland’s team actually took a furlough through December and into mid-January. The team then acquired cars from the 2010 fleet of Richard Petty Motorsports. Doug Yates provided new FR9 engines and today the team has their first ever top-five and top-10 finish.
Comments from David Gilliland, Driver of the No. 34 Taco Bell Ford on what the finishes mean.
“I hope it means that folks start looking at us a little bit more. Trevor Bayne is one heck of a young kid. I’ve been in his shoes before when I won my Nationwide race at Kentucky. Your life changes so fast, and I can relate. For me, and for my team, this finish was like a win. Nobody really thinks about us too much, but I think we’re going to open some eyes this year. We may not run for the championship, but I think we can make some more highlights.
“I had about 100 texts between yesterday and today. I’ve got more people looking into who I am and our team. That is huge. Hopefully by Trevor winning, and a few of us having some good finishes, we can draw some more interest and new fans.”
