PLACERVILLE, California — They made a cameo appearance at Placerville Speedway late last season and when the checkered flag waved the fans were already asking for more. They are known as Dirt Modifieds and they have been added to the 2011 Placerville Speedway schedule for a very special twin track series that will name its very own champion when it concludes.
Known as "Mini Modified Madness," this new campaign that is bound for both facilities is the brain child of Dennis Gage, the new promoter of Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico and Alan Handy, Promoter of Placerville Speedway. The series will consist of six total events split between the tracks and will offer healthy winnings and championship bonus funds to the top drivers.
The Dirt Modifieds are a regular weekly division at Silver Dollar Speedway. Several years ago, the division ran weekly at Placerville Speedway but was phased out at the time due to inconsistent car counts and the need for weekly guest divisions. Now, the number of cars in the region has grown and based on the divisions' performance during the event here in 2010, the desire for door to door dirt modified action is bountiful among both drivers and fans.
"When we added the modifieds to one event last season, the response was great," said Alan Handy of Placerville Speedway. "That night many of the drivers were asking for something like this so we have put it together for 2011. This should be a very exciting mini series for Placerville."
Mini Modified Madness will utilize the common IMCA rules for the small series. Placerville Speedway will host three events for the mini championship tour. Silver Dollar Speedway will also host three events within its weekly Friday night series for the division.
The madness will begin at Placerville Speedway starting June 4th when the series begins. The El Dorado County Fairgrounds will host the tour once again on July 2nd during the Civil War Sprint Car Series race and Independence Weekend blast. The Series will also conclude at the foothill speedway on August 27.
Silver Dollar Speedway will host the madness tour beginning on June 17th. The remaining dates at Chico will include July 1 and August 19th.
Each Mini Modified Madness event will pay $800 to the feature event winning and $100 to start the feature. A championship bonus consisting of a minimum of $1500 will be distributed amongst the top point earners within the campaign. This will be separate from the weekly Silver Dollar Speedway championship.
In addition to the special modified series, both Placerville Speedway and Silver Dollar Speedway will present a special twin track series for the Dirt Solutions Limited Late Models. For further information on that event check out www.placervillespeedway.com.
