CONTRERAS III UPBEAT AFTER DISASTROUS WRECK

For Enrique Contreras III the 2011 season began with little fanfare, just a young driver and his new team simply trying to stay out of trouble and come out of the only road course race of the year in one piece. That did not happen as a severe crash occurred during the second practice session that was eerily reminiscent of the accident that claimed the life of Mexican driver Carlos Pardo. Even more troublesome was the fact that the same driver involved in that tragic accident was also the driver involved in the Contreras wreck. After pitting for chassis adjustments Contreras returned to the track and was preparing to do a scuff run when another other driver attempted a crossover move on one of the fastest areas of the 2 mile road course, contact was made sending the Big Bola Casinos / K&N Filters Dodge Charger some 10 feet in the air upside down. The car landed on the A - post of the roll cage against the outside retaining wall sustaining major damage. Contreras III was taken to the infield Medical facility where he was evaluated and released Saturday afternoon.

Contreras was disappointed about missing the March 21st race at Monterrey Mexico but was immediately looking forward to the next race at San Luis Petosi. “Look we had some good practice times we would have qualified on time for this race and I am extremly disappointed, but I am also very excited for the next race I love the ovals and my team has already left for the shop to finish our new short track car, I am going do very well at SLP and it is my Crew Chiefs favorite track” commented Contreras in an interview Sunday with media reporters. Team Phoenix and Enrique Contreras would like to Thank the Fans and other Corona Series Drivers for the enormous support he and the team have received, and also would like to say thank you to the NASCAR Mexico Safety Crews and Medical Personnel.
