IRWINDALE, California — - In what must be one of the truly great entertainment values of all time, this Saturday (April 16) entertainment fans will be able to get some really huge value for their money at the place that now proudly wears the title: Toyota Speedway and Event Center at Irwindale.
"SATURDAY TICKS: 5 dollars FAIR AND NASCAR!"
That's a long name for sure, but it really is needed to explain and contain all the fun that a ticket to the races or to the LA Spring Fair gets for fans! On Saturday your $5.00 NASCAR ticket gets you into the Fair and your Fair ticket gets you a great seat at the races. And many fans are planning on getting to bed early on Friday and out to Irwindale early to take in both shows.
On the track, the third race of the 2011 season will see the featured Auto Club Late Models, and Echo Equipment Legends Cars hitting the track for their second (Legends) and third (Late Models) race of the young season with the Ken Porter Auctions Open Comp cars and the Vista Paint Super Stocks both bowing for the first time in 2011. Adding to the fun, a Trailer Race will cap the night off with another one of those zany zig-zag events where the term jackknife does not mean something that you carry around in your pocket.
The Auto Club Late Models have a points leader with a perfect 2 for 2 record. Brandon Davis, from Henderson, Nevada won both copies of the twin opening night races for the Late Models. San Bernardino s Toni McCray is second in points with a second and a fourth for 92 with Tim Smith, from Bakersfield third at 88 (a third and a fifth). Travis Irving from Norco, California and Devon Osthimer from Morgan Hill, California are third and fourth in points with 88 and 84 points respectively.
2010 Chad Schug from the high desert (Oak Hills, California) took up were he left off by winning the first Echo Equipment Legends Car event besting a nice field of 15 cars. Eric Gunderson form San Diego was second, with Brent Scheidmantle (Alta Loma, California) finishing third. Blake Dunkelberger of Simi Valley, California was fourth, Mike Iungerich from Granada Hills rounded out the top five on the third-mile division. The above points totals are: 50, 48, 46, 44, and 42.
While were at it let's talk points. The Speedway uses a straightforward system that (as in the example above) awards 50 points for the win and then drops down 2 points per position simple, effective, easy to understand (and always updated on the Speedway website www.toyotaspeedwayatirwindale.com every Monday).
As mentioned above the Vista Paint Super Stocks and the Ken Porter Auctions Open Comp divisions will both take to the track for their first race of 2011. The Super Stocks will run on the half-mile outer oval and the Open Comp. Cars will joust on the tighter and more technical inner third-mile. Each track offers a different set-up challenge for drivers and crews as well as great race-watching for NASCAR fans of all ages.
Famous for always sending everyone home with a big smile, one of the Speedway s fun Trailer Races will round off the night of racing. Featuring all sorts of tow-behind vehicles, this race is predictable to be the most unpredictable, most fun event of the evening.
Fans are advised to note that the LA Spring Fair will open at 10AM on Saturday and that their Fair ticket get them into all of the fun shows (check the whole list out at: www.losangelesspringfair.com) AND the NASCAR races that evening. The Deep-fried pickles, chocolate-dipped bananas on a stick, trapeze acts, fun house, pony rides, the house of mirrors and a thousand other things that are always so much fun at the Fair will continue until midnight after the races.
