CALIFORNIA’S DIAMOND MOUNTAIN SPEEDWAY HAS NINE POINT RACE DATES FOR IMCA MODIFIEDS

SUSANVILLE, California — Opening night is April 30, when IMCA Modifieds return to Diamond Mountain Speedway.

Nine point races, most of them on Saturday nights, are scheduled this season at the ¼-mile dirt oval, local on the Lassen County Fairgrounds in Susanville.

“We had made inquiries about sanctioning last year,” explained promoter and fair manager Jim Wolcott. “With more of the tracks in California going IMCA, this will benefit our fans and bring in more cars.”

Diamond Mountain will pair with sister track American Valley Speedway, located an hour and a half to the southwest, in giving Northern California and Southern Oregon drivers another ButlerBuilt Western Region points venue.

“They sanctioned last year when we were thinking about it,” Wolcott said. “The IMCA sanction makes it easier for us rules-wise because everything is cut and dried. The drivers know what the rules are.”

A test and tune session is planned for April 23. Diamond Mountain will host two-day shows May 28-29 and July 3-4, with the traditional fireworks spectacular following the July 4 program.

Final night for IMCA points will be Sept. 17.

Track improvements, including an upgrade of the lights and replacement of rails and fencing, are on hold until Wolcott finds out about state funding for those projects. He also hopes to expand race programs, including motorcycles, after state plans are determined.

IMCA Modifieds were sanctioned at the former High Desert Speedway in 1995 and 1996.
