BAKERSFIELD, California —Derek Thorn won Saturday night’s SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series WORLD’S CHAMPION HAND CLEANER 140 at All-American Speedway in Roseville.
“It was one of the best turning cars I have ever driven,” Thorn said after the race. “Junior (Joiner) lost his Grandmother last week, so we were racing in her honor, so it was really cool to get the win tonight. I have to thank my sponsors SP Crankshaft, Sigma Engineering and Joiner Motorsports.”
The afternoon began with Jacob Gomes setting the best lap in qualifying with a time of 13.26 seconds. Following qualifying, Gomes drew a seven for the invert which set the field for the WORLD’S CHAMPION HAND CLEANER 140 presented by AmeriPride Uniform Services.
Starting inside row two for the 140-lap event, Thorn followed early leader Zane Lovelace, until moving by for the lead on lap 13 and never looked back as his competitors battled hard for the balance of the race.
Gomes finished second, followed by Carlos Vieira, Washington’s Jared Vorse, Jim Pettit II, M.K. Kanke, Ross Strmiska, Dave Byrd, Keith Spangler and Justin Westmoreland rounding out the top 10.
