KANSAS CITY, Missouri — 12 year-old Trevor Hunt picked up his first career USAC win in his rookie season, leading all 20 laps to win the feature at the Las Vegas Bullring on Saturday night. With the win, Hunt holds a commanding lead in the overall USAC Young Guns standings and he is second in the USAC Pavement Young Guns championship.
Hunt drives the #11 FVP Midget for Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle based in Sacramento, Calif. The win makes Hunt one of the youngest winners in the history of the USAC Young Guns program.
The ultra-fast three-eighths mile bullring saw Hunt qualifying third quick with a time of 16.270 seconds. Hunt followed the up with a third place finish in the heat race.
Starting on the outside pole of the 20 lap main event, Hunt rocketed into the lead out of the gate. After chasing a setup that went between tight and loose all afternoon, Hunt hit on the setup for the feature.
Turning lap times at nearly 16 seconds flat, Hunt ran a smooth race to take the victory by .371 seconds.
Along with winning his first career race, Hunt has finished on the podium in all five USAC starts this year. He also has one pole and he scored a win last week in Micro Sprints.
“Trevor’s performance on Saturday night was nothing short of amazing,” Driver Coach Ron Sutton said. “He has adapted to the rigors of high speed asphalt racing very quickly and has the talent to win more races this year!”
Hunt’s busy schedule will continue as the USAC circuit heats to Shasta Raceway Park in Anderson, Calif this Saturday night.
