With weather being questionable all day, the opening Nascar Whelan All American Series Late Model race of the 2011 Evergreen Speedway season was finally able to get underway. Because of the on and off rain, there was little time for practice and no chance for qualifying. The Work‘n More /Wolverine Chevrolet driver Daniel “Bud” Moore pulled the pole from the pill draw and lead the field to their first green flag of the season without a single lap of pre-season practice.
"The win represents Daniel’s second in a young career in the Nascar Whelan All America Late Model series. "
He was soon to be replaced at the lead by former two time Evergreen Late Model champion, Naima Lang. Lang stretched out his lead to about 6 car lengths early on. It took a number of laps until the Moore Motor Sports #16 driver started to make his move towards the front. Daniel closed the gap and was on the bumper of the leader by mid race.
Getting there was hard, getting by would prove to be harder. The Work‘n More/Wolverine Chevy and the leader ran nose to tail for a number laps until a calculated move to the inside allowed Moore to take the lead and hold off Lang’s charge for the remainder of the fifty lap feature.
The Work‘n More/Wolverine/Powder Coating, Inc/Sand Blaster, Inc./El Paraiso/A&B Customs/ Accurate Engines/JZ Motorsports/Les Schwab Chevrolet was the first to the checkers completing the first 3/8’s feature of the new Evergreen Speedway 2011 Late Model season.
The win represents Daniel’s second in a young career in the Nascar Whelan All America Late Model series.
