A NIGHT OF UPSETS, ALMOST

Chowchilla California - Saturday night April 30th appeared to be a night that all of the dominate drivers at the Chowchilla Speedway would fall to a new winners. It all began in the Spring 150 Enduro race when David Pabst “King David” fell four laps down in the first 75 laps of the race. Ken Winland was flying around the dirt track, so was Alan Deabenderfer and Chris Lancaster.

Winland lead the 20 car field all the way through the break until he slammed into the wall a few times and then giving up what looked like a sure win. Jeff Lacy then took control of the race and lead all the way until just 8 laps to go, and guess who had worked his way back to second? “King David” was on the bumper of Lacy and the crowd was doing all they could do to cheer the 13 car of lacy to victory, but Pabst got by and took the win. “King David’s” reign lives on in the Enduro world.

The headline main event for the night was the Sport Mods, and after a five lap war up front between Shaun Bryant and Gary Hildebrand it was Bryant that took control. Hildebrand had to go to the pits to repair a flat tire, and then the 17 car of Robert Fandrey drove up to the front to battle Bryant. Bryant had trouble and then Hildebrand drove through the pack and took the win to carry on his streak.

In the Hobby Stock class it looked as though Ryan Hart would have his hands full of Marshell Weaver to keep his streak going, but Weaver had shock and tire trouble so this battle never took place as Hart drove off taking the win.

The Super Stock class had a new winner, it was Roy Hart Jr. But Steven Hannah broke early, and this took away what was sure to but one heck of a race between Hart and Hannah.

In the 4-Banger Johnny Tevis did not win, but it was because he broke, maybe? Terry Cheatham won, and may have been able to beat Tevis even if he did not break. Tina Perez ran a strong second to second to Cheatham.

It was a great night of racing on a fantastic race surface, and it was almost of night of great upsets. Next race at Chowchilla is May 14th.
