ROSEVILE, California — All American Speedway hosted the NASCAR Whelen All American Weekly Series this past Mothers Day weekend offering Firefighters free admission to witness fierce competition from some of the best racing talent on the west coast. The previous weekend had the Late Models running 100 laps start to finish without cautions and some very close racing to the win in the other divisions. The evening marked the third point's race for the NASCAR Late Models and the second point's race for the Modifieds, Bombers and Street Stocks.
In the Bomber division 13 cars competed for their number two championship points' race. In qualifying, Chris Paulson captured the pole position by .104 seconds with a fast time of 15.816 seconds. Dana Kelly 2nd, No. 52 Matt Camp 3rd, No. 50 Richard Perez 4th and No. 77 Eric Ray completed the fast five. In the start of the 35 lap main, Richard Perez grabbed the lead, but by lap four Dana Kelly and Chris Paulson were out front battling for the top position. As the three stacked up, Kelly made a move on Perez for the lead as Perez fell back to third behind Paulson. The action up front was intense in the opening laps, but on lap 8 Paulson took the lead away from Kelly and ran from the field to his 2nd Bomber victory with a 2.083 second lead. On lap 14 Matt Camp and Eric Ray were rubbing metal causing them to get a little sideways thru turn one and two but managed to keep their cars on track. The first yellow came out on lap 20 when the No. 52 and the No. 1 got together leaving Camp's bumper on the track. The AAS officials quickly removed the debris and the racing action was underway. Chris Paulson grabbed his second consecutive Bomber victory, followed by Richard Perez, Eric Ray, Dana Kelly and Matt Camp your top 5.
Next up was the 18-car field of the Modifieds. For Qualifying Winters put down a screaming fast time of 13.980 seconds, Dan Jinkerson 2nd, No. 68 Cody Thompson 3rd, No. 28 Jim Miller and No. 20 Scot Alves, the fast five. Eighteen Modifieds lined up for the green flag and No. 28 Jim Miller grabbed the lead early but Dan Jinkerson quickly stole it away on lap three. On lap five No. 1 Rick Anable and No. 20 Scot Alves were battling for the 5th position until the two collided and left the Alves machine spinning in turn four. The first yellow waived on lap 10 when the No. 5 Jason Bamberg and No. 77 Michael Ostrowski were racing for the eighth position, the incident ended up with Ostrowski spinning in turn two. On the restart Scott Winters grabbed the lead for the remainder of the race with Jinkerson in tow. Scott Winters grabbed his second consecutive win in the modified division, Jinkerson, Miller, Thompson and No. 8 Andy Field the top five.
Next in the division line up was the NASCAR Late Models and 14 cars made the field. In qualifying, Romero grabbed pole position at 13.857 seconds just .027 seconds over the second position Matt Scott. No. 27 John Moore, No. 16 Jamie Krzysik and No. 88 Dylan Hutchison were the fast five. The 100-lap Late Model main was the show of the night with lots of racing action, excited fans and a little bit of rain. As the green flag dropped the top four drivers were stacked up side by side for some great racing action. On lap 13, No. 61 Shannon Mansch and No. 11 Juan Pitta were racing for the eighth position when the two made contact in turn four giving Pitta a flat. The two would get together later in the race sending Mansch spinning in turn four causing a yellow. The restart allowed leader Matt Scott and 2nd place driver Romero to return to close racing action allowing Romero and Scott to swap the lead for a few laps. On lap 21, No. 22 Brian Keck and No. 12 Tim Smith racing for the 11th position made contact collecting the No. 44 Ron Chunn. After the restart, No. 72 Michelle Nagai spun in turn four stopping in the middle of the track. With the leaders entering turn three in full throttle racing with no yellow, Romero locked up his breaks and made contact with a stalled Nagai pushing in his left front fender creating a tire rub. On lap 30, contact between Hutchison and Scribner while racing for the fourth position sent Hutchison into the front stretch wall causing a flat tire on the No. 88. As the leaders, Scott and Romero, created a gap from the pack the next close racing action was three cars, Krzysik, Moore and Scribner battling it out for the 3rd position. By lap 78 Moore made the move on Krzysik for the third position and by lap 81 Moore, Krzysik and Scribner made it three wide into turn three sending the No. 16 Machine spinning. The restart on lap 81, bunched up the field and provided close side by side racing with Scott, Romero, Moore and Scribner. This allowed Romero and Scribner to run a solid outside line with Romero stealing the lead away from Scott and Scribner stealing third from Moore. Romero completed the race with his second consecutive victory with Matt Scott 2nd, Chris Scribner 3rd, John Moore 4th and Jamie Krzysik 5th the top five. Hard charger went to Scribner who started 11th due to complications in qualifying to finish 3rd in the main.
Last on the night was the Street Stock division fielding 10 cars. Owens again was at the top of the charts in qualifying with a fast time of 14.904 seconds, No. 23 Richard Poppert Jr., No. 50 Chris Lambert 3rd, No. 98 Byron Gonzales 4th and No. 21 Kevin Owens the fast five. In the 35 lap main, Byron Gonzales grabbed the early lead on the start with Poppert and Lambert battling it out for the second position. On lap 8 Mickey Owens was able to slide by Poppert for the third position. On lap 11, Owens leaked fuel on the track drawing a black flag ending his night and watching the race from the sidelines. On lap 22, Lambert took the lead from Gonzales leaving Gonzales to protect the second position with Poppert and No. 21 Kevin Owens on his tail. Lambert cruised to a 2.187 second victory over Gonzales, Owens, Poppert and No. 2 Mel Wilson the top five.
