PTACEK & COTTRELL VICTORIOUS AT EVERGREEN SPEEDWAY

MONROE, Washington — On Saturday May 14, at Evergreen Speedway, Steve Ptacek and Brian Cottrell both won in the Les Schwab Tires NASCAR Street Stock Division. Ptacek won the first of the twin 30-lap features and Cottrell the second. Cyril Greenawalt won the Cub Scouts of America Mt. Baker Council Hornet Division main. The scheduled Coca Cola 125 for the Speedway Chevrolet NASCAR Whelen All American Series Super Late Models was postponed due to weather.

The rain moved over the track just as the Super Late Models were to qualify on the big 5/8-mile. The rain intensified and never ended during the evening forcing speedway officials to postpone the event. It will be made up later in the season. The fans in attendance received a 50 percent off ticket for a future race.

The rain or shine Street Stock division held their twin 30’s on a very wet 3/8-mile. Using the lower portion of the track Ptacek took the lead midway through the first main. There were many challenges but to no avail. Lane Sundholm finished second and Ryan Hansen was third.

In main #2 Cottrell did the opposite and used the upper groove to win. Cottrell was challenged on the low side but hung on. Sundholm had another second ahead of Ptacek.

Coming from near the back of the field on the road course Greenawalt was able to gain the lead with 10-laps remaining of the 30-lap main for the Hornets. Greenawalt garnered his first win in his rookie season. Second went to Kevin Hornbeck and third to John Zaretzke.

Next up at Evergreen Speedway on Saturday may 21 is the annual rain or shine Armed Forces Night at the Races. All active Military personnel and their dependents will be admitted free. The night will feature the traveling Northwest Pro Truck Series, NASCAR Super Figure Eight Division, Stinger 8 Division, Foster Press NASCAR Mini-Stock Division and the very popular Extreme V-8 Division. The racing gets underway at 6pm with front gates opening at 4pm. For tickets call 360-805-6100 Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm.
