KALISPELL, Montana — Tyler Corpron thrilled the Montana Raceway Park faithful on Saturday night with main event victories in the Wanna Race Thunder Roadster division and the inaugural victory in the CHS Legend Series.
Corpron was hard-pressed by Dave Daughtry throughout the 25-lap main event for the Legends. Both drivers were making their 2011 debuts in the class after top-5 finishes in last season’s drivers championship standings.
Wrango West, Dalton Halden and Devin Clayton rounded out the top-5 main event running order.
Corpron’s Thunder Roadster was the class of the field throughout the night, but, the McDonald’s backed driver did have to hold off a hard charging Zach Havens at the end of the 25-lap main event. Havens was the night’s heat race winner while Corpron earned fast time and the trophy dash victory.
Trevor Corpron, Jaelen Pace and Devin Clayton closed out the top-5 running order.
In the Wanna Race Bandoleros division it was a Denney family affair as brothers Bryce and Brock each traded finishing orders throughout the night with Bryce earning the main event victory. Also having a strong showing during the night was Todd Holleman. The Bandoleros return to action on May 28 for their second race of the season.
Tyler Volkman and Ryan Krause battled back and forth all night long for the Flathead Beacon Hornets main event victory with Volkmann prevailing by just a few car lengths at the checkered flag. Defending division champion, Kyle Basler, had wins in the trophy dash and was the night’s top qualifier but suffered mechanical issues in the main event that resulted in a seventh place finish.
Brandon Sickler roared to the front of the field near the midway point of the 50-lap Lucas Oil Super Stock main event to pick up his first win of the new season. The 2010 series Rookie of the Year passed Don Staggs exiting turn No. 2 for the lead then held Staggs off for a margin of victory of .30-seconds.
Missoula’s Kirk Henneffer finished third with Adam Kinkel and Lonnie Barnett rounding out the top-5.
Montana Raceway Park returns to action on Saturday, May 28 as defending Kalispell Toyota Late Model Series champion, Bodie Morton, looks to pick up his third consecutive main event victory dating back to last season. A stellar field of late model stars including Mark Owens, David Garber, Brian Levant, Cory Wolfe and many more will be on hand for the Rainier Beer 100. Also racing will be the Pabst Blue Ribbon Hobby Stocks, Flathead Beacon Hornets, Wanna Race Bandoleros, Flathead Beacon Bombers and the season-opener for the MRP Compacts.
Kid’s Night offering stock car rides, bicycle giveaways, products from Coca-Cola and much more will be part of the intermission entertainment.
