ENRIQUE CONTRERAS III NASCAR MEXICO ROOKIE OF THE YEAR POINTS LEADER

In what has shaped up to be quite a battle this year in NASCAR Mexico's Rookie of the Year program Enrique Contreras III has emerged as the Top contender and this in spite of a devestating accident at the first race. There are 6 other declared rookies involved in this battle, the largest ever crop of rookies in the 6 year history of NASCAR Mexico. Contreras leads based on two great finishes including a career best at the last race in Chiapas Mexico a high banked super fast 7/8 mile tri oval. The 18 year old competitor started well back in the field in 26th position but quickly manuvered through 3 grinding early wrecks to emerge in the lead pack running as high as 8th before engine power loss issues resulted in a 12th place finish. Contreras's lead could be even more commanding as he was again the top position rookie at the 1/2 mile San Luis Petosi track in race number two only to be wrecked by an overly aggresive driver with less than 10 laps remaining.

"Enrique continues with a very busy schedule by competing this weekend in the Whelen All American Series at Magic Valley Speedway in Twin Falls Idaho, then back to Mexico for race number five in Quertaro MX a tricky 3/4 mile speedway the following weekend."

"That was a tough race at SLP Contreras commented I didn't even have scratch on my car, and on the restart the guy just drove through me, I don't know where he thought he was going" The season began really hard for us but our team just keeps digging and here we are on Top! I love that! Contreras continued. Enrique continues with a very busy schedule by competing this weekend in the Whelen All American Series at Magic Valley Speedway in Twin Falls Idaho, then back to Mexico for race number five in Quertaro MX a tricky 3/4 mile speedway the following weekend. And all this while maintaining a full load schedule at school.

Enrique and Phoenix Racing would like to thank all the fans and his sponsors Big Bola Casinos, K&N Filters, Dodge, McKean Motorsports and The Driver Development Program by NASCAR Mexico for all the support
