West Valley City, Utah -- CarbonX Rocky Mountain Challenge Series Late Model #36 Jeff Hillock took home a well-deserved victory at Rocky Mountain Raceways’ Young Chevrolet 100 on the America First Credit Super Oval Monday night.
Making quick work of his move to the front of the field, Hillock led a big battle with several contenders at his heels; including #03 Steve Jones, who finished in second and #4 Lynn Hardy, who finished in third. “I knew that I had to settle in and let them wear down. I was pretty confident all night,” says Hillock, of Cedar Hills, Utah.
Through several restarts Jones and Hardy led a tight battle for second place; trading positions on the inside and outside of RMR’s ultra-fast 3/8-mile, high-banked, paved oval. Fans were on the edge of their seats as the RMCS Late Models went three-wide into the corners at times and eagerly awaited to see which racer would carry the momentum of the outside position; rocketing them in front of their opponent.
Hillock dedicated tonight’s win in memory of his son, Justin Hillock. “I know my boy was riding with me the whole night,” says Hillock.
“I want to thank all of my crew and family. Without them this wouldn’t be possible. I would also like to the RMCS for their dedication to racing,” says Hillock.
Tonight’s winners included: #36 Jeff Hillock (RMCS Late Models,) #80 Mike Murgoitio (USAC/SLVRA YAG Sprints,) #64 Doug Dugger (Intermountain Pro Trucks,) #70 Tracy Eaton (Figure-8 Cars) and #13 Train Six Feet Under (Western States Equipment Figure-8 Trains.)
ASA Weekly Racing will continue on Saturday, June 4 with the Maverik Modifieds, Super Stocks, Mini Cups, Ford Focus Midgets and Hornets. Following ASA Weekly Racing on the America First Credit Union Super Oval, fans will be invited to the IHRA drag strip for a jet car exhibition featuring Her A Cane (Heather Janishewski,) Rollin Thunder (Steve Cooke,) Fire 4 Hire Jet Tank (Jim Obalek,) and Utah’s own Jaren Mott in the Fire 4 Hire Half Track.
