Four one hundredths of a second, that was the gap between first and second in the Intermountain Pro Truck main event. Doug Dugger set his sights on a Memorial Day victory and had to fight hard as Lou Anderson gave him a run they will both remember for a long time to come. Dugger took the lead from his sixth starting position on lap fourteen. Anderson was the big mover of the race starting deep in the sixteen truck field and catching the tailgate of Dugger on lap eighteen. By lap twenty five Anderson made his way to the outside of Dugger and the two ran side-by-side for the remaining fifteen laps of the forty lap main event. “He ran me really clean” was what both drivers had to say after the main event.
The series “Young Guns” rounded out the top five with Tanner Wong holding down a commanding third place finish. Wong took his first series victory bringing home the win in his heat race. The series youngest and only female driver Hannah Newhouse tied her best main event finish taking home fourth. Rocky Mountain Raceway defending race winner Bo Sharp held on for his second top five finish of the season.
Defending Champion Jerry Rice suffered issues early in the day and after a transmission swap in the pits, Intermountain Pro Truck officials were able to get a few safety laps approved. After only four laps of practice Rice was able to qualify second fast right behind Kent Jensen. Jensen shattered the season fast time at Rocky Mountain with a blistering 16.518 with an average speed of over 81 miles per hour. “Wow the G-Force was incredible I knew that was a fast lap, Shane (Prince) does an awesome job setting this thing up” Jensen set the fast lap of the race but would come home ninth right behind Scott Luttmer and Dan Doan. Point Leader Johnny Pierre rounded out the top ten after becoming the first of the season to take home two heat race wins. Rice was able to close the gap to one point going into the next event at Magic Valley Speedway on June 25th.
