The Beacon Plumbing Weekly Racing Series will feature twin 50’s on the BIG track (5/8-mile paved oval) for the Speedway Chevrolet NASCAR Whelen All American Series Super Late Models. In addition the Stinger 8 figure eight division, Extreme V-8 division and the traveling Northwest Legends Series will be in action on their respective racing surfaces at the ‘Super Speedway of the West’. The pre-race concert will feature the Christian Rock Band Ri-3 (Redeemed in Three). Racing starts at 6pm with front gates opening at 4pm and pre-race activities starting at 5pm.
The points chase for the track championship and the NASCAR State of Washington championship continues with the Super Late Model division back on the BIG track for twin 50-lap mains. The point’s battle has heated up with three time winner this season Naima Lang looking to be a three time champion. Winning championships in 2008 & 09 Lang took a year off of full time racing in 2010. Not planning on a full season in 2011, Lang has changed his mind after winning three of the divisions races this season including one of the twin mains last week on the BIG track. The track has run twin mains for this division twice this season and Lang has won one of the mains each time.
Second in the points chase is young 23 year old Daniel Moore. Moore, a student at Washington State University, drives home each weekend to compete in the tracks premier division. Two second place finishes in last week’s twin mains has moved him to within 53-points of Lang. Moore led a good portion of the first main only to lose the lead in turn three on the last lap. A leaking rear end seal is what slowed Moore enough to lose a shot at a second win this season. Returning to the BIG track this week has Moore feeling very confident for that second win and maybe even a third.
Another strong field is expected for the twin 50’s including Tom Moriarity who is third in points and looking for that first win in 2011. Jeff Knight will return after a dismal outing last week that had him involved in an accident in the first main and a mechanical problem in race two. Tom Hughs will be back along with Travis Blackwood, Timothy Minister and many others.
The Stinger 8’s are back in action this week on the tracks fast and furious figure eight where ‘Highways 2 and 522 Collide’. Lance O’Grain (aka The Hammerhead) is the leader of the pack for the 2011 season championship. O’Grain has been on top of the podium three times this season. Joselyn LaFleur is second in the points in this division. LaFleur races in the Stinger 8 division and three others during the season. Others that will challenge their peers and the most dangerous intersection the dreaded X of the figure eight are Todd Stillwell, Ben Chandler, Sean Peters among the many.
Extreme V-8’s is a new division racing at Evergreen this season. This bump-to-pass class never knows what the format will be for their main. A lucky young fan is chosen to spin the wheel and what format it lands on is used for the main. There are formats such as Dual Oval, Figure Eight, Flag Pole, Cat & Mouse, etc. on the wheel. Josh Beckel has won many of their mains this season and is becoming a marked man. All the other competitors will be trying to bump their way past Beckel.
The traveling Northwest Legends return to the 3/8-mile oval for the second time this season. This popular style of race car which is a scaled down model of racing in the early days of NASCAR such 1940’s coupes and sedans are powered by motorcycle engines and are extremely fast for their size.
